"Spirit" is the seventh single released by British gothic rock band Bauhaus (band), Bauhaus. It was released in 7" format by Beggars Banquet Records as a regular release with the band's distinctive logo on both sides (front black on white, back white on black) and as a picture disc in a clear vinyl pouch with white text printed on the reverse. It peaked at No. 42 in the UK Singles Chart. Bauhaus (band)
Bauhaus are an English rock band formed in Northampton in 1978. Known for their dark image and gloomy sound, Bauhaus are best known as one of the pioneers of gothic rock, although they mixed many genres, including dub, glam rock, psychedelia, and funk. The group consists of Daniel Ash (guitar, saxophone), Peter Murphy (vocals, occasional instruments), Kevin Haskins (drums) and David J (bass). The band formed under the name Bauhaus 1919, in reference to the first operating year of the German art school Bauhaus, but they shortened this name within a year of formation. Their 1979 debut single " Bela Lugosi's Dead" is considered one of the harbingers of gothic rock music and has been influential on contemporary goth culture. ''Press the Eject and Give Me the Tape'' is a live album by the British gothic rock band Bauhaus, released in 1982 on Beggars Banquet Records, and recorded in London and Liverpool in 1981 and 1982. Content The album cover is a photograph by Eugene Merinov. Release The album was originally a bonus disc with the initial limited edition of the 1982 studio album ''The Sky's Gone Out''. Later in the year it was released as a separate album, with initial copies receiving a free single and poster pack. The "Satori in Paris" single features live versions of "Double Dare" and "Hair of the Dog" not recorded at the same gigs from the album, the poster being a montage of the band's history on stage and beyond. "Ziggy Stardust" is a song written by English singer-songwriter David Bowie for his 1972 concept album ''The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars''. Co-produced by Bowie and Ken Scott, he recorded it at Trident Studios in London in November 1971 with his backing band the Spiders from Mars—comprising Mick Ronson, Trevor Bolder and Mick Woodmansey. Lyrically, the song is about Ziggy Stardust, a bisexual alien rock star who acts as a messenger for extraterrestrial beings. The character was influenced by English singer Vince Taylor, as well as the Legendary Stardust Cowboy and Kansai Yamamoto. Hugh Jones is a British record producer with many important post-punk, new wave and alternative rock albums to his credit. ''The Sky's Gone Out'' is the third studio album by English gothic rock band Bauhaus, released in 1982 by record label Beggars Banquet. Music ''NME'' said about the music: "inger Peter Murphy comes across like David Bowie imitating Jacques Brel declaiming a pastiche of Lautréamont backed by the early iouxsie and theBanshees. Release ''The Sky's Gone Out'' was released in October 1982 by the record label Beggars Banquet. Peter Murphy (musician)
Peter John Joseph Murphy (born 11 July 1957) is an English singer, songwriter, and musician. He is the vocalist for the post-punk goth rock band Bauhaus. After Bauhaus initially disbanded, Murphy formed Dali's Car with Japan's bassist Mick Karn and released one album, '' The Waking Hour'' (1984). He later went on to release a number of solo albums, including '' Should the World Fail to Fall Apart'' (1986) and ''Love Hysteria'' (1988). In 1990, he achieved mainstream success with his hit single "Cuts You Up", which topped the American Modern Rock Tracks for 7 weeks. His album ''Deep'' also reached No. 44 on the ''Billboard'' 200. David John Haskins (born 24 April 1957, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England), better known as David J, is a British alternative rock musician, producer, and writer. He is the bassist for the gothic rock band Bauhaus and for Love and Rockets. He has composed the scores for a number of plays and films, and also wrote and directed his own plays, ''Silver for Gold (The Odyssey of Edie Sedgwick)'', in 2008, which was restaged at REDCAT in Los Angeles in 2011, and ''The Chanteuse and The Devil's Muse'' in 2011. His artwork has been shown in galleries internationally, and he has been a resident DJ at venues such as the Knitting Factory.
