Spindrift (song)
"Spindrift" is a song by the Canadian progressive rock band Rush. It was released on their 2007 album ''Snakes & Arrows''. Although it was released as the second single from the album, the song failed to debut on any commercial chart. Rush (band)
Rush was a Canadian rock band formed in 1968 in Toronto, that was comprised primarily of Geddy Lee (bass, vocals), Alex Lifeson (guitar), and Neil Peart (drums, percussion, lyricist). The band formed in Toronto in 1968 by Lifeson, drummer John Rutsey, and bass guitarist/vocalist Jeff Jones, who was immediately replaced by Lee. After Lee joined, the band went through several lineup configurations before arriving at its classic power trio lineup with the addition of Peart in July 1974, who replaced Rutsey four months after the release of their 1974 self-titled debut album; this lineup remained intact for the remainder of the band's career. "The Larger Bowl" is the fourth track and third single from Rush's 2007 album ''Snakes & Arrows''. Inspiration and lyrical structure The lyrics were written by the drummer and primary lyricist Neil Peart. The title was inspired by a "dysentery dream" he had while touring West Africa on his bicycle in 1988.Neil Peart''The Game of Snakes and Arrows'' (accessed May 19, 2007). Peart's book '' The Masked Rider: Cycling in West Africa'' includes a chapter entitled "The Larger Bowl" in which he describes the dream. "Far Cry" is a song by the Canadian progressive rock band Rush. It was released as the first single from their 2007 album ''Snakes & Arrows''. It was released to radio on March 12, 2007, then saw a digital release four days later. The song peaked at number 22 on the ''Billboard'' Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. Guitarist Alex Lifeson said about the song: "It was almost like we already knew the song when we wrote it. We just played it. And that was realy 'sic''cool. That doesn’t happen very often. We were high-fiving and the whole thing, because it’s a relief when something like that happens, for sure." Background The song evolved from a studio jam session between Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee. After their R30: 30th Anniversary Tour ended in October 2004 the band took a one-year break, during which they agreed to start work on a follow-up in January 2006. The album was recorded in five weeks with co-producer Nick Raskulinecz, a fan of the group who was praised by each member for his approach and technique. It contains three instrumental tracks, the most on any Rush album. Nick Raskulinecz () (born February 4, 1970) is an American record producer. He resides in Nashville, Tennessee. Production career Raskulinecz is from the Bearden area of Knoxville, Tennessee. He first produced and recorded bands in Knoxville on a eight-track recorder that his grandfather bought for him. He played in a popular local thrash/ funk band called Hypertribe. Three of their albums were produced at Underground Recording Studio in Seymour, Tennessee, with Matt Lincoln engineering and sharing producing duties. Soon Raskulinecz moved to Los Angeles with his band, now renamed Movement, in 1995, and took a job at Sound City Studios as an assistant, following a suggestion by Brian Bell from Weezer. He eventually became an engineer and learned how to produce.
