Spin The Picture
''Spin the Picture'' is an American game show that aired on the DuMont Television Network. Format The hosts telephoned home viewers to see if they could identify a famous person within a spinning photograph that was accompanied by a verbal clue. Successful identification brought a prize for the viewer. Unsuccessful identification resulted in a consolation prize for the viewer and an increase in the show's jackpot. Background and schedule The show was originally called ''Cut'' at the premiere on June 4, 1949, and was renamed ''Spin the Picture'' on June 18. The show was hosted by Eddie Dunn, Kathi Norris, and Carl Caruso. From June 1949 to January 1950 it was on Saturdays from 8 to 9 p.m. Eastern Time. In January 1959, it was cut to 30 minutes, running from 8 to 8:30 p.m. ET on Saturdays. The final show was broadcast February 4, 1950. A game show is a genre of broadcast viewing entertainment (radio, television, internet, stage or other) where contestants compete for a reward. These programs can either be participatory or Let's Play, demonstrative and are typically directed by a game show host, host, sharing the rules of the program as well as commentating and narrating where necessary. List Of Surviving DuMont Television Network Broadcasts
The DuMont Television Network was launched in 1946 and ceased broadcasting in 1956. Allen DuMont, who created the network, preserved most of what it produced in kinescope format. By 1958, however, much of the library had been destroyed to recover the silver content of the film prints, and eventually the remaining material was simply discarded. This is a list of programs broadcast by the DuMont Television Network, which operated in the United States from 1942 to 1956. All regularly scheduled programs which were aired on the DuMont network are listed below, regardless of whether they originated at DuMont. Some DuMont network series were actually broadcast from Baltimore's WAAM-TV, Chicago's WGN-TV, Cincinnati's WCPO-TV, or Philadelphia's WFIL. ''Stand By for Crime'' is an American television police drama that aired on ABC on Saturday nights from January 11 to August 27, 1949. The series stars veteran newsman Mike Wallace under his real name, Myron Wallace. The series is notable for being the first program to be transmitted from Chicago to New York City. It was ABC's component when each network presented 15 minutes of its programming on January 11, 1949, when the Bell System opened its coaxial cable linking TV's Midwestern and Eastern networks.
