Louis Bennison
Louis Bennison (October 17, 1884 – June 9, 1929) was an American stage and silent film actor, known for westerns. Biography Bennison was born on October 17, 1884, in Oakland, California. He attended the University of California, Berkeley. Bennison performed in plays such as ''The Unchastened Woman'' and ''Johnny Get Your Gun''. In 1912, he was a member of the stock company at the Alcazar Theatre in San Francisco. He had starring film roles and made his motion picture debut in the silent film ''Damaged Goods'' in 1914, other films included ''Pretty Mrs. Smith'' (1915), ''Oh, Johnny!'' (1918) and as the titular character in ''Speedy Meade'' (1919). In the 1920s, Bennison developed a relationship with Broadway actress Margaret Lawrence, and on June 9, 1929, the two were found dead in Lawrence's New York apartment, the result of a murder–suicide by firearm. A lost film is a feature or short film that no longer exists in any studio archive, private collection, public archive or the U.S. Library of Congress. Conditions During most of the 20th century, U.S. copyright law required at least one copy of every American film to be deposited at the Library of Congress at the time of copyright registration, but the Librarian of Congress was not required to retain those copies: "Under the provisions of the act of March 4, 1909, authority is granted for the return to the claimant of copyright of such copyright deposits as are not required by the Library." William Norton Bailey (born Gardner Warren Reineck; September 26, 1886 – November 8, 1962) was an American actor and director. Personal life William Norton Bailey was born Gardner Warren Reineck on 26 September 1886 in Omaha, Nebraska. His parents, Rebecca Gardener Phillips and Jesse P. Reineck, his father was a Western Union telegraph operator. The family moved around the country based on Jesse’s work. The Reineck’s divorced after 1900 when Jesse was arrested, along with five other telegraph operators, for defrauding American Express. William's mother settled the family for a number of years in Milwaukee. Bailey was married on 1917 in Philadelphia to Mary Cannon, an actress who worked under the professional names of Polly Vann and Mary/Polly Bailey. They had no children. Katherine Agnew MacDonald (December 14, 1891–June 4, 1956) was an American stage and film actress, film producer, and model. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and was the older sister of actresses Miriam MacDonald and Mary MacLaren. Career Starting her career as a popular model in New York City in the 1910s, MacDonald moved to Los Angeles in 1917. She became one of the first women to produce films in Hollywood, and produced nine features for her company, Katherine MacDonald Pictures, from 1919 to 1921. MacDonald was among the top ranks of actresses financially in 1920, earning about $50,000 per picture from a contract with First National. She achieved the peak of her popularity between 1920 and 1923. From 1922 to 1925 she appeared in films produced by B. P. Schulberg. Ricca Allen (June 9, 1863 – September 13, 1949) was a Canadian-born stage and film actress. She appeared in more than 50 films between 1913 and 1941. Allen was born in Victoria, British Columbia, to John Allen of Oakland, California. Allen and her sisters Louise Allen and Ray Allen were popular dancers in the 1880s. For nine years, she performed in a company headed by Nance O'Neil. She later had her own company in vaudeville. Allen performed at Niblo's Garden for more than five years. Edward Roseman (May 14, 1875 – September 16, 1957), sometimes identified as Edward F. Roseman, was an American actor, who worked primarily during the silent film era. Biography The son of a pharmacist, Roseman was born in Terre Haute, Indiana, christened Ernest Frederick Roseman. His father died of tuberculosis when he was seven years old so Edward and his two siblings, Jenny May and Henry, were raised in Terre Haute by his mother, Mary Lucinda. As a young adult, Roseman worked on a railroad before succumbing to the lure of vaudeville and traveling theater stock companies, including the Margaret Bird Stock Company and those founded by playwrights Lincoln J. Carter and Wright Lorimer. Between 1913 and 1921, Roseman was a popular actor in silent films, appearing in about 50 motion pictures during that span.
