Speedway Under-21 World Championship
The Speedway Under-21 World Championship is an annual speedway event held each year organized by the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM) since 1977. As of 2022, the title was awarded to the winner of the SGP2 category at the FIM Speedway World Championship. History Between 1977 and 1987 the Championship was the called Individual Speedway Junior European Championship (European Speedway Under 21 Championship), open only to European riders. In 1979, the Championship allowed riders from other continents to compete, but was renamed to the Speedway World Under 21 Championship in 1988. A new competition was named Individual Speedway Junior European Championship was founded by the European Motorcycle Union (UEM) in 1998, only open to European competitors. Motorcycle Speedway
Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to . 2009 Individual Speedway Junior World Championship
The 2009 Individual Speedway Junior World Championship was the 33rd edition of the FIM World motorcycle speedway Under-21 Championships. The final took place on 4 October, 2009, in Goričan, Croatia. It was first final to be held in the Balkans and the Championship was won by Australian rider Darcy Ward. 2020 Speedway Grand Prix
The 2020 Speedway Grand Prix season was the 26th season of the Speedway Grand Prix era, and decided the 75th Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, FIM Speedway World Championship. 2019 Speedway Grand Prix
The 2019 Speedway Grand Prix season was the 25th season of the Speedway Grand Prix era, and decided the 74th FIM Speedway World Championship. It was the nineteenth series under the promotion of Benfield Sports International, an IMG company. The title was won by Bartosz Zmarzlik, who beat debutant Leon Madsen by two points with Russia's Emil Sayfutdinov finishing third. Zmarzlik became the third Polish world champion after Jerzy Szczakiel won in 1973 and Tomasz Gollob took the title in 2010. Bartosz Zmarzlik
Bartosz Zmarzlik (; born 12 April 1995) is a Polish motorcycle speedway rider and three-time World Champion (2019, 2020 and 2022). He has been decorated with the Order of Polonia Restituta, V class. Biography Born in Szczecin, Poland, Zmarzlik is the younger brother of former speedway rider Paweł Zmarzlik. Bartosz first came to the attention of the British speedway public when he was granted a wild card to race in the 2012 Speedway Grand Prix of Poland on 23 June. It was his first appearance in the Grand Prix series. He performed exceptionally well and became the youngest rider to ever appear on the podium in a Speedway Grand Prix, aged just 17 years and 72 days. 2006 Speedway Grand Prix
The 2006 Speedway Grand Prix was the 61st edition of the official World Championship and the 12th season in the Speedway Grand Prix era used to determine the Speedway World Champion. Event format The format remained the same as 2005 with 16 riders taking part in each Grand Prix and over the course of 20 heats each rider will race against every other rider once. The top 8 scorers advance to a semi-final and from each semi-final the 1st and 2nd placed riders will advance to the GP final. The 2004 Speedway Grand Prix was the 59th edition of the official World Championship and the tenth season in the Speedway Grand Prix era used to determine the Speedway World Champion. After finishing second in 2001, 2002 and 2003, Jason Crump broke through to become Australia's first Individual World Champion since Jack Young had won his second straight World title in 1952. Jason Philip Crump (born 6 August 1975) is an Australian international motorcycle speedway rider. He is a three-time Speedway World Champion, a World Cup winner and a former World Under-21 Champion. In a 21-year career in Speedway, Jason Crump finished with 7 World Championship titles to his name (4 individual including the U/21 title, and 3 teams), making him one of the most successful Australian motorcycle racers of all time (including road racing, speedway and motocross). Gary Havelock scored 14 points to become England's first Speedway World Champion since Michael Lee in 1980. Gary Havelock
Robert Gary Havelock (born 4 November 1968, in Eaglescliffe, County Durham, England) is a former speedway rider who was World Champion in 1992. For several years he captained the Redcar Bears in the Premier League. He is the son of former speedway rider Brian Havelock. 1990 Individual Speedway World Championship
The 1990 Individual Speedway World Championship was the 45th edition of the official World Championship to determine the world champion rider. The Final was held at the Odsal Stadium in Bradford, England. It would be the 28th and last time the World Final would be held in England under the traditional single meeting format. Sweden's Per Jonsson won his only World Individual Championship to become the first Swedish World Champion since Anders Michanek in 1974 and became the first rider to win both the Under-21 and Senior World Championships having previously won the 1985 Under-21 World Championship. Jonsson defeated Shawn Moran from the United States in a run-off after both finished the meeting on 13 points. Moran was later stripped of his second place by the FIM for failing a drug test taken at the Overseas Final.
