Speed Skating At The 2014 Winter Olympics – Women's 3000 Metres
The women's 3000 metres speed skating competition of the 2014 Sochi Olympics was held at Adler Arena Skating Center on 9 February 2014 at 15:30 MSK. The competition was won by Ireen Wüst from the Netherlands, who previously won the same distance at the 2006 Winter Olympics. Martina Sáblíková from the Czech Republic, the defending champion, finished second, while Olga Graf won the bronze medal. The race featured three Olympic Champions at this distance: Sáblíková of 2010, Wüst of 2006, and Claudia Pechstein of 2002. Pechstein, also the Olympic record holder, finished fourth. Stephanie Beckert, the silver medalist of the 2010 Winter Olympics, finished 17th. Kim Bo-reum in the third pair took an early lead, and her result was subsequently improved by Yuliya Skokova in the 6th pair, Annouk van der Weijden in the 8th pair, and Olga Graf in the 10th pair. Adler Arena Skating Center
The Adler Arena Trade And Exhibition Center (Адлер-Арена) is an 8,000-seat speed skating rink, speed skating oval in the Sochi Olympic Park, Olympic Park, Sochi, Russia. It opened in 2012 and looks like an iceberg or ice fault. The center hosted the speed skating events at the 2014 Winter Olympics. Original plans for after the Olympics were for the Adler Arena to be turned into an exhibition center. It cost United States Dollar, $32.8 million to build the venue, including the temporary works for the Olympics. Before the Olympics it hosted the 2013 Russian Speed Skating Championships in December 2012 and the 2013 World Single Distance Speed Skating Championships from 21 to 24 March 2013. Ida Njåtun (; born 6 February 1991) is a Norwegian speed skater specialising in the 1500 and 3000 metres distances. She represents the club Asker SK. Njåtun won her first medal at a Norwegian senior championship in 2008 (then aged 16), and became Norwegian allround champion in 2011. Njåtun withdrew from defending her national title the following season due to illness, but came back to win four successive gold medals in the allround championships from 2013 to 2016, and again in 2019.
