Speed Skating At The 2022 Winter Olympics – Men's 10,000 Metres
The men's 10,000 m competition in speed skating at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 11 February, at the National Speed Skating Oval ("Ice Ribbon") in Beijing. Nils van der Poel of Sweden won the event, a few days after winning the 5000 m distance, and set a new world record. Patrick Roest of the Netherlands won the silver medal, and Davide Ghiotto of Italy the bronze, his first individual Olympic medal. The defending champion and the Olympic record holder was Ted-Jan Bloemen. The silver medalist, Jorrit Bergsma, qualified for the Olympics as well. The bronze medalist, Nicola Tumolero, did not start. Nils van der Poel was the 2021 World Single Distances champion at the 10,000 m distance, with Bergsma and Aleksandr Rumyantsev being the silver and bronze medalist, respectively. Speed skating is a competitive form of ice skating in which the competitors racing, race each other in travelling a certain distance on Ice skate, skates. Bart Swings (born 12 February 1991) is a Belgian long track speed skater and inline speed skater. He is the 2022 Olympic champion on the speed skating mass start. Swings won Belgium's first gold medal in 74 years and is the first Belgian athlete ever to have won two medals in the Winter Olympics. Career At his first world championship speed skating event, the 2011 World Single Distance Speed Skating Championships in Inzell, Germany, he finished 17th in the 5000 m. Patrick Beckert
Patrick Beckert (born 17 April 1990) is a German Olympic speed skater. Becket finished in 22nd place in the 5000 m at the 2010 Winter Olympics. He missed one race because his mobile phone was turned off. He was the fourth reserve for that race, and neither he nor the German team manager thought he would be selected. The Olympic Games officials attempted to call all four reserves after a skater withdrew just one hour before the race, but none four skaters were reachable. He has set eleven German records in the senior division, seven German records in the junior division, and eight championship records. He was the first German speed skater to skate the 10000 meter under 13 minutes and the 3000-meter event under 3:40 minutes. Beijing National Speed Skating Oval
The National Speed Skating Oval (The Ice Ribbon) is a speed skating arena which is the only new venue built on Beijing's Olympic Green for the Winter Olympics. It hosts the speed skating competitions at the 2022 Winter Olympics. It was built on the location of the former Olympic Green Hockey Field used for field hockey event and the Olympic Green Archery Field used for the archery event. It can accommodate 12,000 spectators (6,800 permanent and 5,200 temporary seats) according to the bid book. After the games it is foreseen to use it as a public skating venue and for ice hockey clubs. Designed by Populous and Beijing Institute of Architectural Design, construction began in mid-2017, and was completed in 2019. First competition was held on October 8, 2021.
