Special Operations Group (India)
The Special Operations Group (SOG; also known as Jammu and Kashmir anti-militancy Task Force and JKP anti-militancy Task Force) is a 2300+-strong elite anti-insurgency force chosen from more than 100,000 troopers of the Jammu and Kashmir Police. It was raised in 1994 with the idea of "involving the passive Jammu and Kashmir Police in the anti-terrorist activities and giving a local face to these operations". The J&K police has since been very competent and on the frontlines in anti-terror activities. The SOG members are also the first targets of the militant groups and local separatists alike. The SOG till date conducts joint operations with other security forces in the region; one example is the 13 March 2000 operation in which Hizbul Mujahideen commander Hamid Gada was killed, and the 6 May 2020 operation in which Hizbul chief Riyaz Naikoo was killed. The Jammu and Kashmir Police or JKP is the law enforcement agency of Jammu and Kashmir (union territory). JKP was established in 1873 and has primary responsibilities in law enforcement and investigation within Jammu and Kashmir in India. History The first specific Jammu & Kashmir police force came into existence in the year 1873 with one police officer known as ''Kotwal'' and 14 ''Thanedars'' for Srinagar City. This police force would control crime and take care of law and order situations with help of ''Chowkidars'' and ''Harkars'', who were paid mandatorily by the residents of Imperial Kashmir Union. National Security Guard
The National Security Guard (NSG), commonly known as Black Cats, is a counter-terrorism unit of India under the Ministry of Home Affairs. It was founded on 16 October 1984, following Operation Blue Star, for combating terrorist activities and protect states against internal disturbances. Formalised in the Parliament of India under the National Security Guard Act, 1986. It is one of the seven Central Armed police forces of India. The Punjab Police SWAT Team is an elite commando force and the specialised counter terrorism unit of the Punjab Police. Overview Punjab Police ''Special Weapons and Tactics'' (SWAT) was formed in 2011. They are usually tasked with protection duties. They are highly trained on the lines of National Security Guard by Israel's Mossad through private company Athena Security, deployed by the Punjab Government. Force One (Marathi: बळ एक, IAST: ''Baḷa ēka'') is a specialised counter terrorism unit of the Mumbai Police to guard the Mumbai metropolitan area, one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world, formed by the Government of Maharashtra on the lines of National Security Guards (NSG). Greyhounds is a police special forces unit of the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Police departments in India. Greyhounds specialises in counter-insurgency operations against Naxalite and Maoist terrorists. Several Indian paramilitary and police officers have described the Greyhounds as among the best anti-insurgency forces that specialises in anti-Maoist operations and as experts in jungle warfare. The Special Operation Group (SOG) is an Indian elite paramilitary unit operating under the Odisha Police (OP). The force specializes in neutralizing terrorists, insurgents and extremists. Counter Insurgency Force
Counter Insurgency Force or (CIF) A Police tactical unit of West Bengal Police with headquarters in Garia, West Bengal was created by the West Bengal state government in 2010 on the lines of Greyhounds in Andhra Pradesh to combat proscribed Naxalites/Maoists in the state. At least 1000 personnel from the state armed forces have been given commando training prior to inclusion in the CIF. The training center itself is located in Salua, and further field training is given at Salboni, both in West Bengal Midnapore district. Now it shifted to Durgapur. Farooq Khan
Sardar Farooq Khan (born 1955) is an Indian politician and former police officer who served with the Indian Police Service (IPS). He retired in 2013 as Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu and head of the Sher-I-Kashmir Police Academy at Udhampur. Khan is known for the creation of the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) Special Task Force (STF) as well as being its first head in 1995; STF would later go on to be renamed as the Special Operations Group (SOG).
