Spaubeek
Spaubeek is a village in the Dutch province of Limburg. Spaubeek was a separate municipality until 1982, when it was merged with Beek. History The village was first mentioned in 1175 as Spaltbeke, and means "valley with a brook". Spaubeek is a village which developed in the Middle Ages along the northern bank of Geleenbeek. Three linear settlements later appeared on the southern bank. In 1557, Jansgeleen Castle became the seat for the ''heerlijkheid'' Geleen en Spaubeek. The Catholic St Laurentius Church is a three-aisled basilica-like church made out of sand stone which was constructed between 1925 and 1926 as a replacement of the 1837 church. Beek
Beek (; li, Baek ) is a town and municipality in the southeastern Netherlands, in the province of Limburg. As of 2012, Beek has a population of about 16,400, of which about 8,800 live in the town of Beek. The municipality of Beek makes part of the region of South Limburg and lies between the city of Geleen in the north and Maastricht in the south, and lies furthermore southeast of interchange Kerensheide and the chemical industries of Chemelot. Jansgeleen Castle, now erroneously called ''Sint-Jansgeleen'' or ''Sint Jansgeleen'', was a medieval castle in the little village of Spaubeek, in the Dutch province of Limburg. Vivianne L.W.A. Heijnen (born 8 October 1982) is a Dutch politician of the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) party. She has been serving as the Minister for the Environment as part of the fourth Rutte cabinet since January 2022. A76 Motorway (Netherlands)
The A76 motorway is a motorway in the Netherlands. It is located entirely in the Dutch province of Limburg. Overview The motorway, 27 km long, connects the Belgian border ( A2/ E314 road) near Stein with Geleen, Heerlen and the German border ( A4 road) near Simpelveld. Along the entire stretch of the motorway, the European route E314 travels along the A76. The A76 features a number of incomplete connections and interchanges. At interchange Ten Esschen, only traffic to and from the western part of the A76 can reach the connecting N281 road. Sittard
Sittard (; ) is a city in the Netherlands, situated in the southernmost province of Limburg. The town is part of the municipality of Sittard-Geleen and has almost 37.500 inhabitants in 2016. In its east, Sittard borders the German municipality of Selfkant (in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia). The city centre is located at 45 m above sea level. History Archaeological discoveries have dated the first settlement in the Sittard area around 5000 B.C. Present day Sittard is assumed to have been founded around 850 A.D. and to have been built around a motte. Sittard was first mentioned in 1157. It was granted city rights by the Duke of Limburg in 1243. In 1400 it was sold to the Duchy of Jülich, and remained in its possession until 1794.
