Spartak!
Spartak! were a musical collective from Alcobaça, Portugal. Although Alcobaça is relatively small, it maintains a music scene including Loto, The Gift and Samuel Jerónimo. Spartak's debut EP ''Spartak! One'' (released in May 2006) was produced by Ricardo Coelho of Loto. History The band did not maintain a "fixed" lineup, but recorded as a collective of various members in order to accommodate a variety of artistic ideas. The live band generally performed with one lead vocalist, two guitarists, bass, a keyboardist, and a drummer, and occasionally an image projectionist. In addition to founding members Tiago Matos, Márcio Duarte, Wagner Fernandes, and Carlos Sousa, other live band members have included JT (Loto), Nuno Ruas, and Nuno Oliveira. Alcobaça, Portugal
Alcobaça () is a Portuguese city and municipality in the Oeste region, in the historical province of Estremadura, and in the Leiria District. The city grew along the valleys of the rivers Alcoa and Baça, from which it derives its name. The municipality population in 2011 was 56,693, in an area of . The city proper has a population of 15,800 inhabitants. The city of Alcobaça became notable after the first king of Portugal, Afonso Henriques, decided to build a church to commemorate the Conquest of Santarém from the Moors in 1147. The Gift (band)
The Gift is a Portuguese alternative rock band, formed in 1994. They have released eight albums to date. In 2005 they won the MTV Europe award for best Portuguese act. Biography Formed in 1994, The Gift was initially a side project of the Dead Souls, Nuno Gonçalves, El Guam and Miguel Ribeiro’s band at the time. The evolution from one project to another was natural, as they felt the Dead Souls sound was limited by their instrumentation (guitar, drums and bass) and wanted to experiment with new sounds and explore new musical paths. In September, 1994, Sónia Tavares, Nuno and John Gonçalves, Miguel Ribeiro, and Ricardo Braga enrolled in the Bar Ben Music Competition in Alcobaça, and took second place in the competition, to everyone's great surprise, given the band’s short time in existence. Coimbra University Radio (Portuguese: Rádio Universidade de Coimbra - RUC) is a university radio station of the Coimbra Academic Association (students' union) of the University of Coimbra in Coimbra, Portugal. It broadcasts on 107.9 FM (also broadcasts on-line). The Center of Experimental Radio was founded in the 1940s but it was only on 1 March 1986 that the radio obtained the authorization to broadcast on FM.
