Spalding High School (Georgia)
Spalding High School is located in Griffin, Georgia, United States. It is part of the Griffin-Spalding County School System. Its mascot is a jaguar and the school colors are blue and silver. This is the third Spalding County school to have this name. The first Spalding High was built in 1929 and opened in 1930. It was located on Spalding Street, near the Dixie Highway and west of the city of Griffin. In 1943, the original building burned. In 1945, the second Spalding High was built. The first two schools were part of the Spalding County School System. In 1953, the Griffin and Spalding County school systems merged. As a result of the consolidation, the second Spalding High was closed. Spalding High School (SHS) is a grammar school for girls and a mixed sixth form located in Spalding, Lincolnshire, England. Location and admissions Spalding High School, situated on Stonegate, Spalding, halfway between the Welland (and B1173) and the Coronation Channel to the east. The rear of the school, to the east, backs onto Exeter Drain and both of the Gleed schools (boys' and girls') playing fields. The school also accepts some girls from Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and Norfolk. SHS admits pupils aged 11–18, all of whom are required to pass an 11+ exam. There are approximately 1,000 staff and students at the school. The headmistress is Michele Anderson. History The school opened in 1920, originally at Ayscoughfee Hall School, then moved to its current site in the late 1950s. Spaulding High School was built in 1939, and the addition of the Richard W. Creteau Center was completed in 1990. Along with the addition in 1990, the original building was extensively renovated. Academy of Our Lady and Spalding Institute were Catholic school, Catholic high schools across the street from each other in downtown Peoria, Illinois. The Academy (AOL), a girls' school, traced its lineage back to 1863. The Spalding Institute (SI), the boys' school, was founded in 1899 by the Franciscan Brothers of Mountbellew#Franciscan Brothers, Mountbellew, Ireland, at the invitation of John Lancaster Spalding, the first Roman Catholic Diocese of Peoria, Bishop of Peoria. It was one of the communities which left that religious congregation to split off and become part of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis of Penance, based in Rome, Italy. The schools merged into one co-educational school, Academy of Our Lady/Spalding Institute in 1973. AOL/SI (also known as Academy/Spalding) was merged with Bergan High School (Peoria, Illinois), Bergan High School to form Peoria Notre Dame High School in 1988, and the campus was closed at the end of the 1988–1989 school year. Archbishop Spalding High School is a private, Catholic co-educational high school located in Severn, Maryland, USA. It is located in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Baltimore. Most of its students live in Annapolis, Crownsville, Arnold, Pasadena, Severna Park, Crofton, Millersville, Glen Burnie, or Davidsonville in Anne Arundel County.
