Spa Towns In The Czech Republic
There are number of spa towns in the Czech Republic. Between the oldest and most visited are the spas of Karlovy Vary, Mariánské Lázně, Františkovy Lázně, Luhačovice and Poděbrady. In 2011 the Czech spas were visited by around 700,000 guests, of whom around half were foreigners, mainly from Germany, Russia and Austria. Jáchymov
Jáchymov (); german: Sankt Joachimsthal or ''Joachimsthal'') is a spa town in Karlovy Vary District in the Karlovy Vary Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 2,300 inhabitants. The historical core of the town from the 16th century is well preserved and protected by law as urban monument zone. It is a comprehensive set of Gothic–Renaissance patrician houses. Jáchymov has a long mining tradition, thanks to which it used to be the second most populous town in the Kingdom of Bohemia in 1534. At first silver was mined here. The silver coins minted here since the 16th century gave their name to the Thaler and the dollar. After the Wieliczka Salt Mine ceased industrial exploitation in 2007, the Svornost mine (1525) became the oldest mine still in use in Europe. It is also the first and for a long time the only mine in the world, where radium was mined. Velké Losiny
Velké Losiny (german: Groß Ullersdorf) is a spa municipality and village in Šumperk District in the Olomouc Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 2,500 inhabitants. Administrative parts Villages of Bukovice, Ludvíkov, Maršíkov and Žárová are administrative parts of Velké Losiny. Geography Velké Losiny is located about northeast of Šumperk and north of Olomouc. It lies mostly in the Hanušovice Highlands. A small part of the municipal territory in the east extends into the Hrubý Jeseník mountains. The highest point is the hill Bukový vrch at above sea level. Třeboň (; german: Wittingau) is a spa town in Jindřichův Hradec District in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 8,100 inhabitants. The town centre with the castle complex is well preserved and is protected by law as an Cultural monument (Czech Republic)#Monument reservations, urban monument reservation. Teplice Nad Bečvou
Teplice nad Bečvou (until 1959 Zbrašov) is a spa municipality and village in Přerov District in the Olomouc Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 400 inhabitants. Geography Teplice nad Bečvou is located about northeast of Přerov and east of Olomouc. It lies in the Moravian-Silesian Foothills. It is situated on the left bank of the Bečva River. History The first written mention of Teplice nad Bečvou under its old name ''Zbrašov'' is from 1328. One half of the village belonged to Helfštýn and later to Hranice estate and one half was owned by the Hradisko Monastery. In 1491, William II of Pernstein bought Zbrašov from Hradisko Monastery and joined it to his Hranice estate. Teplice
Teplice () (until 1948 Teplice-Šanov; german: Teplitz-Schönau or ''Teplitz'') is a city in the Ústí nad Labem Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 49,000 inhabitants. It is the second largest Czech spa town, after Karlovy Vary. The historic city centre is well preserved and is protected by law as an urban monument zone. Lipová-lázně (until 1960 Dolní Lipová; german: Bad Lindewiese) is a spa municipality and village in Jeseník District in the Olomouc Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 2,100 inhabitants. Administrative parts The village of Horní Lipová and the hamlet of Bobrovník are administrative parts of Lipová-lázně. Geography Lipová-lázně is located about west of Jeseník and north of Olomouc. Lázně Bohdaneč
Lázně Bohdaneč (, until 1980 Bohdaneč) is a spa town in Pardubice District in the Pardubice Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 3,500 inhabitants. Geography Lázně Bohdaneč is located about northwest of Pardubice. It lies in the East Elbe Table, in the Polabí region. The streams Černská strouha and Rajská strouha flow through the municipal territory. Several fish ponds are located in the northern part of the territory. The largest of them is Bohdanečský, which is together with its surroundings protected as the Bohdanečský rybník National Nature Reserve. History The first written mention of Bohdaneč is from 1264. Lázně Bělohrad () is a spa town in Jičín District in the Hradec Králové Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 3,600 inhabitants. Administrative parts Villages of Brtev, Dolní Javoří, Dolní Nová Ves, Horní Nová Ves, Hřídelec, Lány, Prostřední Nová Ves and Uhlíře are administrative parts of Lázně Bělohrad.
