Soviet Union National Speedway Team
The Soviet Union national speedway team were one of the leading nations who competed in international team motorcycle speedway. History The Soviet Union speedway team (which was comprised predominantly of Russian riders but also Ukrainian, Latvian and Belarus riders) first competed in the 1961 edition of the Speedway World Team Cup, where they finished second in the East European round. Throughout the history of World Team Cup, the team were regular World Cup contenders from 1961 until their final World Cup in 1983. They reached the final on 12 occasions, winning the silver medal five times, in 1964, 1966, 1971, 1972, 1975 and the bronze medals three times, in 1967, 1969 and 1973. The team also reached the final of the Speedway World Pairs Championship in 1973 and 1974. Following the Dissolution of the Soviet Union at the end of 1991, the riders then competed for their new speedway nations of the Russia, Ukraine and Latvia. Motorcycle Speedway
Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to . Valeri Klementiev
Valeri Klementiev (died 1971) was an international speedway rider from the Soviet Union. Speedway career Klementiev became a European Champion, after winning the gold medal at the 1969 European Final. He also reached the final of the Speedway World Championship in the 1969 Individual Speedway World Championship. He was killed at a young age during a race in May 1971 in Russia. Gabdrakhman Kadyrov
Gabdrakhman Kadyrov (1941-1993) was an international speedway rider from the Soviet Union. His nationality was described as being a Tatar and his mother came from Bashkortostan but he was born in Shatura. Speedway career Kadyrov was one of the all-time great Ice Speedway riders. He won the inaugural Individual Ice Speedway World Championship in 1966 and went on to be the champion of the world six times in total, after winning again in 1966, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1972 and 1973. He won a silver medal at the Speedway World Team Cup in the 1967 Speedway World Team Cup. He was known as Gab and earned the nickname 'The Beatle' by his fellow Soviet riders because of his hair cut resembling The Beatles at the time. He was a metal craftsman by trade. Malmö Stadion, often known simply as Stadion before the construction of the new Stadion between 2007 and 2009, is a multi-purpose stadium in Malmö, Sweden. As of 2015, it is the home of association football club IFK Malmö, presently of Division 2, and athletics club MAI. The stadium served as the home ground for Malmö FF, an association football team in Sweden's top flight, Allsvenskan, from its opening in 1958 until 2009, when the club moved to the newly constructed Stadion, built beside Malmö Stadion, in 2009. The Olympic Stadium ( pl, Stadion Olimpijski) is a multi-purpose stadium in Wrocław, Poland.
