Sovereign Council Of Asturias And León
The Sovereign Council of Asturias and León ( es, Consejo Soberano de Asturias y León, ast, Conseyu Soberanu d'Asturies y Llión), was an unrecognized state in northern Spain during the Spanish Civil War. Proclaimed on 6 September 1936, it was self-declared sovereign on 24 August 1937, while the region was occupied on 20 October 1937 by Franco's military forces. Belarmino Tomás was the Sovereign Council's first and only President. The capital of the short-lived state was Gijón. Context In Asturias, where the UGT and the CNT were especially active, there had been a kind of Libertarian socialist revolution. Asturian Miners' Strike Of 1934
The Asturian miners' strike of 1934 was a major strike action undertaken by regional miners against the 1933 Spanish general election, which redistributed political power from the leftists to conservatives in the Second Spanish Republic. The strike lasted two weeks from 4 October to 19 October 1934 in Asturias. The election led to the conservative Spanish Confederation of the Autonomous Right (CEDA), securing a parliamentary majority in the Spanish government on 6 October. The strike and subsequent demonstrations eventually developed into a violent revolutionary uprising in an attempt to overthrow the conservative regime. Regional Defence Council Of Aragon
The Regional Defence Council of Aragon ( es, Consejo Regional de Defensa de Aragón (CRDA), an, Consello Rechional d'Esfensa d'Aragón), was an administrative entity created by the Confederación Nacional del Trabajo (CNT) in the context of the Spanish Revolution, during the Spanish Civil War. Until its dissolution, the CRDA controlled and administered the eastern half of Aragon. Its economy was based on the communities, the productive engine of the region, as well as the exchange between them and other regions. The price of goods was controlled and inflation was avoided. The Council of Aragon was the first autonomous government of Aragon since 1707, becoming a government of its own within the Second Spanish Republic. Ramón González Peña
Ramón González Peña (1888 – 27 July 1952) was an Asturian people, Asturian socialist and trade union leader. González was a prominent leader in the Asturian miners' strike of 1934, 1934 miners revolt in Asturias, under which he led the Oviedo Revolutionary Committee. After the revolt, he was sentenced to death. One year later, however, he was reprieved. González served as the president of Unión General de Trabajadores, in which he was in conflict with Largo Caballero. Segundo Blanco González (Gijón 1899 – Mexico 1957) was an Asturian anarchist, teacher and CNT militant that participated in the governance of various republican institutions, during the Spanish Civil War. Biography Segundo Blanco González was born in 1899 in Gijón, a town with a strong anarchist presence. He worked in construction as a master rigger and completed his studies in teaching, although his early militant activity did not allow him to practice teaching. From a very young age, he became one of the most prominent militants of the Asturias, Asturian CNT, in which there was a large payroll of anarchists of merit headed by Eleuterio Quintanilla. ''ABC'' () is a Spanish national daily newspaper. It is the second largest general-interest newspaper in Spain, number one in Madrid, and the oldest newspaper still operating in Madrid.
