Southwest Motors Events Center
The Southwest Motors Events Center (originally the Colorado State Fair Events Center) is a multi-purpose arena located in Pueblo, Colorado. The arena is located on the northwest corner of the Colorado State Fairgrounds and is predominantly used during the Colorado State Fair. The venue can host an array of events, including: concerts, professional bull riding, indoor football, basketball games and monster truck shows. About The arena was purposed in 1990 initially to replace the aging Grandstand at the Colorado State Fair. At first, an outdoor amphitheater was purposed. However, this was later dismissed in favor of the arena and a year-round use. The arena was also a draw for big-name acts to perform in the Pueblo area, thus a need for it to be bigger than the Massari Arena. Construction began in 1993 during the fair's off season. In the Southwestern United States, Pueblo (capitalized) refers to the Native tribes of Puebloans having fixed-location communities with permanent buildings which also are called pueblos (lowercased). The Spanish explorers of northern New Spain used the term ''pueblo'' to refer to permanent indigenous towns they found in the region, mainly in New Mexico and parts of Arizona, in the former province of Nuevo México. This term continued to be used to describe the communities housed in apartment structures built of stone, adobe mud, and other local material. National Indoor Football League
The National Indoor Football League (NIFL) was a professional indoor football league in the United States. For their first six years, the league had teams in markets not covered by either the Arena Football League or its developmental league, AF2, however, that changed briefly with their expansion into AFL markets such as Atlanta, Denver, and Los Angeles, and AF2 markets such as Fort Myers and Houston. Colorado State Fair
The Colorado State Fair is an event held annually in late August in Pueblo, Colorado. The state fair has been a tradition since October 9, 1872. The fairgrounds also host a number of other events during the rest of the year. Organizationally, the fair is one of the divisions of the Colorado Department of Agriculture. History When Colorado became a state in 1876, its state fair was already earning its place in history. In 1869, approximately two thousand people converged on what is now Pueblo for a horse exhibition; from that meager beginning was born the Colorado State Fair. There were cancellations in 1917–18 and 1942–45. 2020 saw drive-thru fair food and limited exhibitions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Massari Arena
Massari Arena is a 3,900 seat multi-purpose arena in Pueblo, Colorado. It was built in 1971, and underwent a reconstruction starting in 2006 and ending in 2008. The arena is the home of the Colorado State University Pueblo ThunderWolves men's and women's basketball, wrestling, and volleyball programs. The arena is named for Colorado State Senator Vincent Massari who led the college's push to become a four-year university. Senator Massari was instrumental in obtaining funds for a new campus in the Belmont area of Pueblo, moving from the old junior college campus on Orman Avenue. The arena was the site of a 1980 Van Halen concert that provided the backdrop for an enduring urban legend surrounding the band. Petra (band)
Petra is an American music group regarded as a pioneer of the Christian rock and contemporary Christian music genres and was, for many years, regarded as the "world's most popular Christian rock band". Steel City Menace
The Steel City Menace were a professional indoor football team and a member of American Indoor Football that played part of the 2016 season. Originally based in Pueblo, Colorado, the Menace were to play their home games at the Southwest Motors Events Center, however, they ended up playing at an outdoor field and the two regular season league games they played were on the road. The Menace were the second indoor football team to call Pueblo home, after the Pueblo Pistols which played in the National Indoor Football League for the 2007 season before the team and the league folded. Originally, the Menace were going to be known as the Mile High Menace and play at the Magness Arena in Denver. American Indoor Football
American Indoor Football (AIF) was a professional indoor football league, one of the several regional professional indoor football leagues in North America. The AIFL began as a regional league with six franchises on the East Coast of the United States in 2005. After a rapid, and largely failed, expansion effort in 2006, most of the league's remaining teams jumped to the new AIFA (the rest joined the short-lived WIFL). The AIFA expanded throughout existing territory and, in 2008, expanded into the Western United States.
