Southside Park
Southside Park is, at , the largest park in the City of Atlanta. It is located along Jonesboro Road in the southern part of the city just north of the Perimeter (I-285). Its rank as the city's largest park is set to be eclipsed by the new Westside Park at . Southside Park is mostly undeveloped forest and a baseball diamond, concession stand, and parking lot. In 2007, the city completed a study for the development of the park. The study called out the lack of facilities in the park and the difficulty of access on foot, by bike, and by public transportation. In 2013, the City of Atlanta funded a study by the trail consulting arm of the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) which was completed in December 2013. The resulting Conceptual Design Report describes a potential for 6.5 miles of natural surface trail (known in mountain biking circles as "singletrack") suitable for bicyclists, runners, and hikers. Interstate 285 (Georgia)
Interstate 285 (I-285) is an auxiliary Interstate Highway encircling Atlanta, Georgia, for . It connects the three major Interstate Highways to Atlanta: I-20, I-75, and I-85. Colloquially referred to as the Perimeter, it also carries unsigned State Route 407 (SR 407) and is signed as Atlanta Bypass on I-20, I-75, and I-85. Because of suburban sprawl, it is estimated that more than two million people use the highway each day, making it the one of the busiest Interstates in the Atlanta metropolitan area, and one of the most heavily traveled roadways in the US. During rush hour, portions of the highway slow, sometimes to a crawl. Route description I-285 is 8 to 12 lanes wide, with the northern part from I-75 to SR 400 to I-85 the most heavily traveled. Westside Park
Westside Park at Bellwood Quarry is a park in the City of Atlanta located on the site of the former Bellwood Quarry. The park is between Johnson Road and Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway and between the neighborhoods of Bankhead, Grove Park, and Knight Park/Howell Station, of which a large portion of the park falls within the Grove Park boundaries. Westside Park at Bellwood Quarry was a major green space project of the Atlanta BeltLine master plan. The park has trail connectivity to the Proctor Creek Greenway Trail (Phase 1) and will ultimately have connectivity to the BeltLine. Status The land, which was owned by Fulton County, was previously leased to Vulcan Materials. International Mountain Bicycling Association
The International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) is a non-profit educational association whose mission is to create, enhance and preserve trail opportunities for mountain bikers worldwide. IMBA was formed in 1988, when five California-based mountain bike clubs created an alliance to fight widespread trail closures. The founding clubs were the Concerned Off Road Bicyclists Association, Bicycle Trails Council of the East Bay, Bicycle Trails Council of Marin, Sacramento Rough Riders and Responsible Organized Mountain Pedalers. Gibson Anderson, of Sacramento, was elected IMBA's first executive director. In 1993 IMBA hired Tim Blumenthal, a former IMBA board member and cycling journalist, as its executive director. When Blumenthal began, the organization had roughly 1,200 individual members and about 60 affiliated clubs. The headquarters moved to Boulder, Colorado, in 1994.
