The Southport Leagues Club is a rugby league club based in Southport, Queensland, Australia. The primary charter of SLCL is the promotion of Rugby league within the Gold Coast community and the operation of a profitable sporting club that reinvests in Rugby League and the local community. History Southport Leagues Club Limited (SLCL) has been an integral part of the Gold Coast Rugby League scene and community since the 1930s when it was originally called the Southport Wanderers. This has positioned SLCL as a leading community-based sporting organisation based on the Gold Coast in Queensland. The Gold Coast Rugby League (also known as the Kevin Bycroft Cup) is a rugby league football competition based in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. It is under the administration of the Queensland Rugby League through the South East Queensland Division, which also administers the Brisbane and Ipswich competitions. The Gold Coast Rugby League Premiership consists of ten clubs, competing in three senior leagues; A-Grade, Reserves and Colts (under-19s). The Gold Coast Junior Rugby League was formed in 1976 and consists of seventeen clubs, competing in multiple age groups from under-7s to under-17s. Southport Tigers
Initially formed as the Southport Football Club the Southport Tigers compete in both the junior and senior Gold Coast Rugby League competitions. The club is based at Owen Park in Southport, Queensland, Australia. History There has been a long history of Southport being represented in Rugby league dating back to the 1930s. They were then known as the Southport Wanderers. In 1931, the Southport Wanderers were the A Grade undefeated Premiers winning the Plunket Cup in that year. The Southport Wanderers Football Club A Grade side were the South Coast League Premiers and winners of the Mathias Cup in 1939. Southport also played local competition in the late forties and early fifties. The Southport Wanderers also had south coast representative teams in the Brisbane Rugby League Premiership competition.
