Southfield, New York
Southfield was a Town in Richmond County, New York. It was located in the southeastern part of Staten Island, along Lower New York Bay prior to the incorporation of Staten Island into New York City in 1898, bounded on the west roughly by Richmond Road, Giffords Lane, Amboy Road, and Arden Avenue. The town's origins dates to an administrative division of the island made by English colonists in the late 17th century, after they took over New Netherland from the Dutch in 1664. The town was incorporated as one of the four original divisions of Richmond County in 1788. In 1860, Middletown was created from parts of Southfield and Castleton. Fort Wadsworth is located in Southfield. The town was dissolved in 1898 upon consolidation into the City of New York. Poillon-Seguine-Britton House was a historic home located in Great Kills, Staten Island, New York, near Great Kills Harbor. The original section was built about 1695 for the French immigrant Jacques Poillon, with a 2-story addition completed about 1845 after the home was sold to Joseph Seguine, and a final major expansion in 1930 for Richard Britton. South Beach is a neighborhood on the East Shore of Staten Island, New York City, situated directly south of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge. South Beach is bounded by New York Bay on the southeast, Seaview Avenue on the southwest, Laconia Avenue on the northwest, Reid and McClean Avenues on the north, and Lily Pond Avenue on the northeast. New Dorp is a neighborhood on the East Shore of Staten Island, New York City, United States. The City of Greater New York was the term used by many politicians and scholars for the expanded City of New York created on January 1, 1898, by consolidating the existing City of New York with Brooklyn, western Queens County, and Staten Island. The section of the Bronx west of the Bronx River had been annexed to the City and County of New York in 1874 and was known as the Annexed District. Castleton is a former town in the U.S. state of New York. It was located in the northeastern part of Staten Island prior to the incorporation of Staten Island into New York City in 1898. It had a total area of 3880 acres (15.7 km²) and was bounded by Upper New York Bay on the east and the Kill Van Kull on the north. The town dates from the late 17th century. It was originally set aside as the manor of the governor of the Province of New York and takes its name from the manor of Governor Thomas Dongan who named it for his home Castletown, in the town Kildrought (now Celbridge) in County Kildare, Ireland.
