Port Moresby Strikers, also known as Southern Strikers, are a professional football club founded in 2017 and based in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. Their best domestic result to date came in the 2018 edition of the Papua New Guinea National Soccer League, when they finished 5th. History The club was founded in 2017, shortly before the start of the 2017 National Soccer League season. The side were due to take part in the 2017 edition of the league alongside six other teams, but failed to show for their first match. In May 2017, it was reported that the side had deferred their application fee for the following season, and in doing so were the first side to confirm their interest ahead of the 2018 season. Papua New Guinea National Soccer League
The KPHL National Soccer League, also known as the Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited National Soccer League for sponsorship reasons, is the men's top division of professional soccer in Papua New Guinea. It is a nationwide league formed in 2006 by Papua New Guinea Football Association. It replaced the Papua New Guinea National Club Championship as the country's major soccer competition. In its 13 seasons, the competition has been won by only two clubs: Hekari United won the first eight editions, while Lae City have won the last six. The two clubs have met in two Grand Finals, in 2015–16 and 2019, with Lae City winning both. The 2021 Papua New Guinea National Soccer League, for sponsorship reasons also known as the Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited National Soccer League, is the 15th edition of the Papua New Guinea National Soccer League, the top-tier football league in Papua New Guinea. The Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation (RSSSF) is an international organization dedicated to collecting statistics about association football. The foundation aims to build an exhaustive archive of football-related information from around the world. The 2017 Papua New Guinea National Soccer League season was the 11th edition of the Papua New Guinea National Soccer League. The title was won by Lae City Dwellers, who were awarded the title by virtue of their superior regular season record, after the Papua New Guinea Football Association cancelled the playoffs and the Grand Final. FC Momase, formerly known as Meril Momase, is a semi-professional association football club based in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, and founded sometime before 1984. The side took part in one edition of the Papua New Guinea National Soccer League in 2018, finishing 6th after being suspended midway through the season. They have also won the Port Moresby Premier League once, in 2013. History The first records of the club competing competitively are from the 1984 Papua New Guinea National Club Championship, in which they finished third in Group 1. Madang (old German name: ''Friedrich-Wilhelmshafen'') is the capital of Madang Province and is a town with a population of 27,420 (in 2005) on the north coast of Papua New Guinea. It was first settled by the Germans in the 19th century. History Russian biologist Nicholai Miklukho-Maklai was probably the first European to visit the area. In 1871 he stayed at Astrolabe Bay south of present-day Madang for 15 months. He had a good relationship with the local communities before leaving, suffering from malaria. Besta PNG United, sometimes known as Besta United PNG, is a semi-professional soccer club, based in Lae, Papua New Guinea. The side acts as the national development team of the Papua New Guinea Football Association, and is limited to players who are under the age of 23. The side made their debut in the Papua New Guinea National Soccer League in the 2009–10 season, finishing bottom of the table.
