Mangalore is a rural locality in the local government areas (LGA) of Brighton and Southern Midlands in the Hobart and Central LGA regions of Tasmania. The locality is about north of the town of Brighton. The 2016 census has a population of 422 for the state suburb of Mangalore. It is between the townships of Bagdad and Brighton, on the Midland Highway 32 km from the capital city of Hobart. History Mangalore was gazetted as a locality in 1970. Kempton, Tasmania
Kempton is a village in the local government area (LGA) of the Southern Midlands in the Central LGA region of Tasmania. The locality is about south-west of the town of Oatlands. The 2016 census has a population of 386 for the state suburb of Kempton. In a low rainfall region of plains and low hills, it is mostly used for grazing sheep. History Originally the home of the Big River tribe of Aboriginal people, Kempton was first settled by Europeans in 1820. It was originally called Green Water Holes, but by 1820 was known as Green Water Ponds, before being shortened to Green Ponds in 1821. Two convict stations were situated in Green Ponds and a military barracks at Glenfern Estate. Campania is a township in Tasmania's Coal River Valley, in the Southern Midlands Council. It is one of the most important wine-producing regions of Tasmania, and has had commercial vineyards since the mid-19th century. Oatlands, Tasmania
Oatlands is an important historical village on the shores of Lake Dulverton in the centre of Tasmania, Australia. Oatlands is located 84 km north of Hobart and 115 km south of Launceston on the Midland Highway. At the 2016 census, Oatlands had a population of 683. Oatlands is considered to have the largest number of colonial sandstone buildings in any town in Australia, and many of them were built by convict labour. It is the largest town in the Southern Midlands Council area and is surrounded by rich agricultural land. History Oatlands is one of Tasmania's oldest settlements and was named by Governor Macquarie after an English town in the county of Surrey in 1821.
