The Maine Rebels are a football team in the Independent Women's Football League based in Portland, Maine. Home games are played at Memorial Stadium on the campus of Deering High School. They were formerly known as the Southern Maine Rebels until 2011. Independent Women's Football League
The Independent Women's Football League (IWFL) was the first Women's American football league established by women players for women players. The league was founded in 2000, began play in 2001, and played its last season in 2018. Members of the original roster of the Austin Outlaws were the league's founders. Following the establishment of the league as a separate entity from the team, former outlaws players Laurie Frederick, Jaime Bailey and Sandra Plato became the original IWFL executive council. Central PA Vipers
The Central PA Vipers were a team of the Independent Women's Football League. Based in the Steelton suburb of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the Vipers played their home games at Steelton-Highspire School District's War Veterans Memorial Field, also known as Cottage Hill. Prior to playing in the IWFL, the Vipers were a member of the National Women's Football Association in 2006 and 2007 (in their inaugural season, they were called the Harrisburg Angels). After four seasons and twenty-seven attempts (not counting two forfeits by the Richmond Spirit in 2007), the Vipers finally picked up their first victory on the gridiron on June 6, 2009 thanks to a 48-0 triumph over the Holyoke Hurricanes. Binghamton Tiger Cats
The Binghamton Tiger Cats played their sixth season overall and fourth as a member of the Women's Spring Football League (WSFL) in 2014. The Tiger Cats Women's Tackle Football team based in Binghamton, New York began play for its inaugural 2009 season as a member of the Women's Football Alliance and for the 2010 season as a member of the Independent Women's Football League. The Tiger Cats competed as an independent team in 2011. The Tiger Cats completed the 2013 season as the WSFL Northeast Division Champions in the 8 man division and were also a WSFL National Championship Runner-Up. New England Intensity
The New England Intensity was an American football team in the Independent Women's Football League based in Medway, Massachusetts. Home games were played at Joseph P. Hanlon Field on the campus of Medway High School in Medway. For its first season, in 2003, the Intensity was known as the Rhode Island Riptide. Games were played at Pierce Field in East Providence, Rhode Island. The following two seasons the team was known as the Rhode Island Intensity. The team moved to Medway, going by the "New England" locale name, the Intensity played in the Women's Professional Football League before going back to the IWFL the following year. Memorial Stadium is a 5,200 seat multi-purpose outdoor stadium in Portland, Maine. It is located behind Deering High School in the suburban Deering Center neighborhood. Jersey Justice
The Jersey Justice were an Independent Women's Tackle Football Team based in Carteret, New Jersey. The team was formed in 2008 with many former players and staff from the New Jersey Titans. Home games in 2011 are to be played on the campus of St. John Vianney High School in Holmdel Township, New Jersey. Prior to 2011 they played all home games at Carteret High School. The Justice elected to not finish the 2011 season after playing only 3 games and are defunct. History The Justice were established in late 2008 and originally planning to be a member of the National Women's Football Association.
