Southern Lord Records Discography
Southern Lord Records is an American independent record label founded by Greg Anderson in 1998. The Los Angeles-based label was initially formed "just to put out" the debut albums by Thorr's Hammer and Burning Witch. These bands were among the first collaborations between Anderson and Stephen O'Malley, who also formed Sunn O))), one of the label's biggest selling acts along with Japanese band Boris. The underground label also found bigger sales with releases by side projects of mainstream artists, such as Dave Grohl's ''Probot'' and Josh Homme's '' The Desert Sessions, volumes 7 & 8''. Southern Lord's discography is diverse, and consists of albums by experimental metal bands Earth, Goatsnake and Khanate, as well as releases from black metal acts like Wolves in the Throne Room and Striborg. Catalog This list is organized by catalog number, a roughly chronological number system established by the label and typically printed on or assigned to each official release. However, unlike ...

Southern Lord Records
Southern Lord is an American heavy metal record label that was founded in 1998 by Greg Anderson. It specialized in experimental metal: particularly doom metal, stoner rock, and drone metal. The label later expanded its line-up to include artists from black metal, hardcore punk and crust punk bands. History Before co-founding their own record label Greg Anderson and Stephen O'Malley were friends and bandmates in Thorr's Hammer and Burning Witch. The pair formed a new band named Sunn O))) in 1998 and moved to Los Angeles. They started Southern Lord as a way to have control over the releases of their own recordings. Southern Lord's first release was the CD version (previous released as a cassette) of Thorr’s Hammer‘s ''Dommedagsnatt--'' a doom/death metal album with Norwegian lyrics. The second release was: Burning Witch‘s ''Crippled Lucifer--'' a compilation CD of the band's first two EPs. Subsequently Southern Lord branched out to release a compilation album from Sco ...

Wolves In The Throne Room
Wolves in the Throne Room is an American black metal band formed in 2002 in Olympia, Washington, by brothers Aaron and Nathan Weaver. They have released seven full-length albums, two live albums, and one EP to date. They have stated one of the founding concepts of the band to be channeling the "energies of the Pacific Northwest's landscape" into musical form. History Formation and ''Diadem of 12 Stars'' (2002–2006) Brothers Aaron and Nathan Weaver formed the band in 2002. Their first practice took place in a falling-down cabin located on the then-abandoned and overgrown Calliope Farm, which they had recently moved to. Nathan met Nick Paul at a local party and the three began to write material for their first demo. At the time, Nick was heavily influenced by thrash metal, speed metal, and death metal, citing bands like Death and Bolt Thrower, as well as post-punk and gothic rock influences such as Swans, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Fields of the Nephilim. Aaron and Nathan's ...

Cocaine Rodeo
''Cocaine Rodeo'' is the debut studio album by American rock band Mondo Generator, released on Southern Lord Records in 2000. It was compiled of material recorded by vocalist/bassist Nick Oliveri with Rob Oswald of Karma to Burn (drums), vocalist and guitarist Brent Malkus, and his ex-Kyuss bandmates. Recorded in 1997, the material was shelved for three years due to Oliveri's full-time commitment to Queens of the Stone Age. Several of the songs were performed live by Queens of the Stone Age, building up hype before the eventual release of the album. Three of the album's ten tracks ("13th Floor", "Simple Exploding Man", & "Cocaine Rodeo") feature former members of Kyuss, Josh Homme, Brant Bjork, and Oliveri. This impromptu Kyuss reunion was made possible by Oliveri, who invited each member separately to the studio without any knowledge of who they were playing with. "Simple Exploding Man" features all four original Kyuss members, including vocalist John Garcia, and longtime Kyuss pr ...

Mondo Generator
Mondo Generator (sometimes known as Nick Oliveri and the Mondo Generator) is an American rock band founded in 1997 by Nick Oliveri. History Formation and ''Cocaine Rodeo'' (1997–2002) Nick Oliveri (under the moniker ''Rex Everything'') formed Mondo Generator in 1997. The name of the band originated when Brant Bjork spray-painted the words on the side of Oliveri's Sunn amplifier. Mondo means "world" in Italian. The Oliveri-penned Kyuss song appearing on the 1992 album ''Blues for the Red Sun'' also took its name from this event, and the amplifier itself appears in the artwork for the album. With friends Josh Homme, Brant Bjork, Rob Oswald, and Karl Doyle among others, the band recorded their debut album, ''Cocaine Rodeo'', the same year. The album wouldn't be released until 3 years later due to Oliveri and Homme being full-time members of Queens of the Stone Age. The album was released by cult-favorite Southern Lord Records in 2000. There was little support of the album by t ...

The Want (NJ Band)
The Want was an American stoner/ blues rock band from Union, New Jersey. History The Want put out two albums in the 90s but are best remembered for their "greatest hits" compilation on Southern Lord Records released in 2000. They draw heavily from 70s influences (Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath are usually noted) and have been criticized for being too loyal to their roots. The Want released their debut album, ''5 O'Clock Orange'', in 1996 on Mack-Daddy Records. A follow-up, ''Acid Millennium'', was released the following year. In 2000 Southern Lord Records released a compilation of songs from the first two albums with the misleading title ''Greatest Hits Vol. 5''. They also recorded "Let the Music Do the Talking," which appeared on ''Right in the Nuts'', a tribute to Aerosmith released by Small Stone Records. After the Want disbanded, bassist Jeff Mackey joined Eighteen Wheels Burning and later recruited former Want guitarist Adam Valk for the same project. Line-up * Kenneth ...

Formed in 1980, they recorded a few demos and played a handful of live shows until they first split up in 1986 when Weinrich joined as lead vocalist for Saint Vitus, but reformed four years later. After releasing three albums (including their self-titled that was originally recorded in 1985), the Obsessed broke up for a second time in 1995.
