Southern Exposure (film)
''Southern Exposure'' is a 1934 short animated film distributed by Columbia Pictures. It is part of a long-running short film series starring Krazy Kat. Plot Krazy and his spaniel girlfriend (who is wearing a blond coily wig in this short) are attending an outdoor party organized by a community of apes. The apes sing, dance, and play instruments. Krazy and the spaniel join in the activities. But the celebration of the apes gets interrupted when their master, a labrador holding a whip, shows up. It is shown that the apes are forced laborers who work on sowing and harvesting crops for little rewards. Krazy and the spaniel are also forced laborers whose job is to harvest cotton from the shrubs. Suddenly they accidentally shave the rear of a sheep, causing it to runaway. This irritates the master who starts chasing them. Krazy and the spaniel try to escape by attempting to hide in a truck carrying ice blocks. Manny Gould
Emanuel Gould (May 30, 1904 – July 19, 1975) was an American animated cartoonist from the 1920s to the 1970s, best known for his contributions as a director, writer and animator for Screen Gems, and solely an animator for Warner Bros. Cartoons and DePatie–Freleng Enterprises. Career Manny Gould began his career as a teenager working for several New York-based animation studios. He would later partner with Ben Harrison to form the short lived Harrison-Gould studios. Both later moved to Winkler Pictures to work on the '' Krazy Kat'' cartoon series as animators, writers and directors. After Charles Mintz took over Winkler Pictures, the studio was moved to Los Angeles in 1931 to develop The Charles Mintz Studio (later renamed Screen Gems) after establishing a partnership with Columbia Pictures. Charles Bear Mintz (November 5, 1889 – December 30, 1939)''Social Security Death Index, 1935–2014''. Social Security Administration. was an American film producer and distributor who assumed control over Margaret J. Winkler's Winkler Pictures after marrying her in 1924. The couple had two children, Katherine and William. Between 1925 and 1939, Mintz produced over 370 cartoon shorts. Career Charles Mintz was unhappy with the production costs on Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks's ''Alice Comedies'', and asked the two to develop a new character. The result was Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, the first animated character for Universal Pictures. In February 1928, when the character proved more successful than expected, Mintz hired away all of Disney's animators except Iwerks, who refused to leave Disney, and moved the production of the Oswald cartoons to his new Winkler Studio, along with Margaret Winkler's brother, George.
