Rita Mae Brown
Rita Mae Brown (born November 28, 1944) is an American feminist writer, best known for her coming-of-age autobiographical novel, ''Rubyfruit Jungle''. Brown was active in a number of civil rights campaigns and criticized the marginalization of lesbians within feminist groups. Brown received the Pioneer Award for lifetime achievement at the Lambda Literary Awards in 2015. Biography Early life Brown was born in 1944 in Hanover, Pennsylvania to an unmarried teenage mother and her mother's married boyfriend. Brown's birth mother left the newborn Brown at an orphanage. Her mother's cousin Julia Brown and her husband Ralph retrieved her from the orphanage, and raised her as their own in York, Pennsylvania, and later in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Southern Discomfort (Eyehategod Album)
''Southern Discomfort'' is a collection of rarities by sludge metal band Eyehategod, released on January 25, 2000. The title is a reference to the alcoholic drink Southern Comfort. Tracks 1-6 are demos from the ''Take as Needed for Pain'' era that ended up on splits and singles. Tracks 7-9 are outtakes from the original '' Dopesick'' sessions. These tracks later appeared on the 2006 Century Media reissues of each album. Certain editions of this album feature a red skull on the cover instead of a white one. Southern Discomfort (Fabian Society Pamphlets)
The Southern Discomfort pamphlets were a series of studies by Labour MP Giles Radice, published by the Labour-affiliated think tank the Fabian Society that examined attitudes towards the party in the south of England after the 1992 United Kingdom general election, 1992 general election defeat. The studies found that voters in marginal constituencies were concerned about Labour's lack of economic credibility and feared that their taxes would increase if party leader Neil Kinnock had won the election. The pamphlets were influential in underscoring the need for Labour to appeal to "C1" (White-collar worker, white collar) and "C2" (skilled) voters (based on the NRS social grade classifications identifying class in the UK). Southern Discomfort Roller Derby (SDRD) is a men's roller derby league based in London, England. Founded in 2010, the league consists of two teams which compete against teams from other leagues. They were members of the Men's Roller Derby Association (MRDA) until suspension in 2021, and are current members of the United Kingdom Roller Derby Association (UKRDA). League History The league was founded in November 2010, initially as a south of England representative team. After playing a single bout against the Northern England Roller Dudes (NERD), it remained inactive until August 2011, when it was resurrected on a permanent basis. In September, SDRD played a further game against the Northern England Roller Dudes, then later in the year suffered its first defeat to a mixed team of skaters from two new leagues: The Inhuman League from Sheffield, and Tyne and Fear Roller Derby from Newcastle upon Tyne.
