Southern Connecticut State Fighting Owls
The Southern Connecticut Owls (also Southern Connecticut State Owls and SCSU Owls) are the athletic teams that represent Southern Connecticut State University, located in New Haven, Connecticut, in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports. The Owls' 17 athletic teams, seven for men and 10 for women, compete as members of either the Northeast-10 Conference or the Eastern College Athletic Conference. SCSU has been a member of the NE-10 since 2000. There have been 10 NCAA National Championship Teams at Southern, as well as 75 NCAA Individual Champions in the sports of Track and Field, Swimming and Gymnastics. Sports sponsored Soccer SCSU's men's soccer team won titles in 1987, 1990, 1992, 1995, 1998, 1999. The six titles are the most for any Division II men's soccer team in the country. Southern Connecticut State University
Southern Connecticut State University (Southern Connecticut, Southern Connecticut State, SCSU, or simply Southern) is a public university in New Haven, Connecticut. Part of the Connecticut State University System, it was founded in 1893 and is governed by the Connecticut Board of Regents for Higher Education. History On September 11, 1893, New Haven State Normal School, a two-year teacher training school, was established. The Skinner School, a two-story building, was used as the first campus. It was situated on State Street at the corner of what was then known as Summer Street. Arthur Boothby Morrill served as the first principal of the Normal School from 1893 to 1924. Two female teachers and Morrill made up the faculty. The 1995 NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship was the 24th annual tournament held by the NCAA to determine the top men's Division II college soccer program in the United States. Tampa Spartans
The Tampa Spartans are the athletic teams that represent the University of Tampa, located in Tampa, Florida, in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports. The Spartans compete as members of the Sunshine State Conference for all sports besides beach volleyball and track and field, which compete as independents. Tampa has been a member of the conference since 1981. The 1990 NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship was the 19th annual tournament held by the NCAA to determine the top men's Division II college soccer program in the United States. Southern Connecticut State defeated Seattle Pacific in the final, winning in a penalty kick shootout after the championship match finished 0–0 through four overtime periods.
