South West Slammers
South West Slammers is an NBL1 West club based in Bunbury, Western Australia. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 West. The Slammers play their home games at Eaton Recreation Centre and represent Western Australia's South West region. The club was originally based in the City of Bunbury at Hay Park Recreation Centre (became known as South West Sports Centre in 2002) but relocated north to the suburb of Eaton in 2005 and moved into Eaton Recreation Centre. Club history Men's team 1989 saw the formation of the State Basketball League (SBL) with both a men's and women's competition. A team from Bunbury, known as the Slammers, entered the Men's SBL for its inaugural season. The Slammers were a dominant force in the first decade on the league, winning championships in 1995, 1996, 1998 and 1999, while also making grand final appearances in 1991 and 1992. NBL1 West
NBL1 West, formerly the State Basketball League (SBL), is a semi-professional basketball league in Western Australia, comprising both a men's and women's competition. In 2020, Basketball Western Australia partnered with the National Basketball League (NBL) to bring NBL1 to Western Australia. NBL1 replaced the former SBL to create more professional pathways and opportunities for males and females playing basketball in Western Australia. As a result, the SBL became the west conference of NBL1. History The State Basketball League originated in 1972 as the District Competition. 2012 WSBL Season
The 2012 WSBL season was the 24th season of the Women's State Basketball League (SBL). The regular season began on Friday 16 March and ended on Saturday 28 July. The finals began on Friday 3 August and ended on Friday 31 August, when the South West Slammers defeated the Rockingham Flames in the WSBL Grand Final. Regular season The regular season began on Friday 16 March and ended on Saturday 28 July after 20 rounds of competition. An additional round was added in 2012 to lighten the travel load of regional teams. Due to an ineligible player taking part in an SBL qualifying game, the South West Slammers were deemed to have forfeited a round sixteen victory against the Wanneroo Wolves after they suited up a development player but failed to lodge a contract, player registration and proof of citizenship which are all documents required by the league before a player can take the court. 2021 NBL1 West Season
The 2021 NBL1 West season was the inaugural season of the NBL1 West. After 32 years known as the State Basketball League (SBL), the league was rebranded under the NBL1 banner for 2021. The regular season began on Friday 16 April and ended on Saturday 14 August. The finals began on Friday 20 August and concluded with the women's grand final on Friday 3 September and the men's grand final on Saturday 4 September. The NBL1 National Finals, which was set to take place in Melbourne, was cancelled on 13 August 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Rockingham Flames
Rockingham Flames is an NBL1 West club based in Perth, Western Australia. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 West. The club is a division of the Rockingham Basketball and Recreation Association (RBRA), the major administrative basketball organisation in the region. The Flames play their home games at Mike Barnett Sports Complex. Club history In the early 1970s, Rockingham and Districts Basketball Association was established. The Rockingham Flames made their debut in the State Basketball League (SBL) in 1992 in the form of a women's team, becoming the first club to introduce a women's program before a men's program. In 1994, a Rockingham Flames men's team entered the Men's SBL. Joondalup Wolves is an NBL1 West club based in Perth, Western Australia. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 West. The club is a division of Wanneroo Basketball Association (WBA), the major administrative basketball organisation in the Joondalup/Wanneroo region. The Wolves play their home games at HBF Arena. Bunbury, Western Australia
Bunbury is a coastal city in the Australian state of Western Australia, approximately south of the state capital, Perth. It is the state's third most populous city after Perth and Mandurah, with a population of approximately 75,000. Clive Weeden
Clive-Warren Nye Harvey-Weeden (born November 22, 1987) is an American basketball player for the South West Slammers of the NBL1 West. He played four seasons of college basketball for Dartmouth College before moving to Europe to begin his professional career. After short stints in Macedonia and Tunisia, Weeden arrived in Australia in 2013 and has played for the Slammers ever since. High school career Weeden attended Nashoba Regional High School in Bolton, Massachusetts and Northfield Mount Hermon School in Northfield, Massachusetts. As a wide receiver and punter, Weeden racked up 450 receiving yards and six touchdowns in his one year of high school football during his sophomore year at Northfield Mount Hermon. Boston College and UConn were among the school's who were intrigued by Weeden's football talent.
