South Perth Esplanade
South Perth Esplanade is the name of the foreshore area of Perth Water from Point Belches to Mends Street Jetty in South Perth, Western Australia. It has been in the past susceptible to tidal and flooding inundations. It has been a desirable location for real estate looking across the Swan River (Western Australia), Swan River to the city of Perth, as well as watching the City of Perth Skyworks. The South Perth City council lists it as a park/reserve that can be hired. The South Perth foreshore continues to the east, into the Sir James Mitchell Park. Point Belches
Point Belches is a small point on the south side of Swan River, Western Australia, about east of The Narrows within the area known as Perth Water. The land is part of the South Perth Esplanade, and the water off the point is used as a commercial water skiing area. Captain James Stirling discovered Point Belches during the Swan River expedition of 1827. He named it in honour of Peter Belches, a member of the exploring party who was Third Lieutenant on Stirling's ship, . While Point Belches now refers to a small feature on the eastern side of the peninsula, Stirling almost certainly intended the name to refer to the entire peninsula. Mends Street Jetty
Mends Street Jetty is located in South Perth in Western Australia. The jetty is on the southern shore of the Swan River in the section known as Perth Water. The ferry service is primarily used for accessing the Perth Zoo from the Perth central business district. History It is not known when the first jetty at Mends Street was built, however, with the opening of the Perth Zoo in October 1898 it was recognised that a regular cross-river ferry service was needed. Therefore, at about that time, the existing jetty was widened to and an existing service that ran between William Street and Queen Street Jetty was extended to Mends Street. The service was run by Joseph Charles, who operated the ''Queen'' (later ''Empress'') and the ''Princess''. The Swan River () is a river in the south west of Western Australia. The river runs through the metropolitan area of Perth, Western Australia's capital and largest city. The City of Perth Skyworks (previously named for other sponsors) was a large scale fireworks show in Perth, Western Australia that was held annually on Australia Day (26 January) over Perth Water, the section of the Swan River (Western Australia), Swan River adjacent to Perth (suburb), the central business district. For many years the City of Perth Skyworks were the largest fireworks celebration in the country on Australia Day. Sir James Mitchell Park
Sir James Mitchell Park is a park along the southern foreshore of Perth Water in Perth, Western Australia. It lies within the suburb of South Perth from Mends Street Jetty, to just south of Heirisson Island. It is named after Sir James Mitchell, the 13th Premier of Western Australia It was formerly a riverside area with a number of issues regarding management. In the 1950s market gardens were closed in the area. Since the 1970s considerable effort has been made to improve amenity, access and environmental issues.
