South Kerry is a division of Kerry GAA. The South Kerry consists of club teams. It is primarily known for Gaelic football, though some hurling is also played. Kerry GAA
The Kerry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), or Kerry GAA, is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland. It is responsible for Gaelic games in County Kerry, and for the Kerry county teams. The Kerry branch of the Gaelic Athletic Association was founded in the year 1888. Football is the dominant sport in the county, with both the men's and women's teams among the strongest in the country at senior level. The county football team was the fourth from the province of Munster to win an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC), as well as to appear in the final, following Limerick, Tipperary and Cork. Kerry is the most successful in the history of the All-Ireland SFC, topping the list of counties for All-Irelands won. St Patrick's are a Gaelic Athletic Association hurling club in East County Kerry, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. They draw their players mainly from Killarney, Rathmore, County Kerry, Rathmore, Killorglin, St Mary’s and Spa/ Glenflesk. A one time senior club they now play in the Junior Championship and the Junior County League Division 3. Ger Lynch
Ger Lynch (born 10 December 1958) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played as a wing back at senior level for the Kerry county team. Lynch made his first appearance for the team during the 1982 championship and became a regular player over subsequent seasons until his retirement in 1989. During that time he won three All-Ireland winners' medals, three Munster winners' medals, one National Football League winners' medal and one All-Star award. Himself and Tom Spillane — assigned to mark Tommy Conroy and Barney Rock during the 1984 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final — began their efforts during the national anthem, which they sang with aplomb. Maurice Fitzgerald (footballer)
Maurice Fitzgerald (born 1969) is an Irish Gaelic football selector and former player. His league and championship career at senior level with the Kery county team spanned fourteen seasons from 1988 to 2001. Born in Cahersiveen, County Kerry, Fitzgerald was born into a strong Gaelic football family. His father, Ned Fitzgerald, was an All-Ireland medal winner with Kerry in 1955 before later captaining the side in 1957. Fitzgerald's brother-in-law Colm O'Neill is a two-time All-Ireland medal winner with Cork, while his nephew, Shane O'Neill is a soccer player with Orlando City SC. Fitzgerald played competitive Gaelic football during his schooling at Cahersiveen CBS and won several county championship medals in various grades. He later played with University College Cork, winning a Sigerson Cup medal in 1987. John Egan (Gaelic Footballer)
John Egan (13 June 1952 – 8 April 2012) was an Irish sportsperson. Egan was born in Tahilla (near Sneem), County Kerry. He played Gaelic football with his local club Sneem, his divisional side South Kerry and at senior level with the Kerry county team between 1975 and 1984. Career A prolific corner forward on the Kerry county team of the late 1970s and 1980s, Egan made his senior inter-county debut against Tipperary in the 1975 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, and instantly marked his arrival onto the senior stage with two goals in the first round opener. The 1975 success marked the beginning of a golden era for the county. Successive Munster titles in 1976 and 1977 were followed by consecutive defeats to Dublin at the All-Ireland SFC final and semi-final stages. A strength and conditioning coach (also known as an S&C coach) is a physical performance professional who uses exercise prescription to improve the performance of competitive athletes or athletic teams. This is achieved through the combination of strength training, aerobic conditioning, and other methods. Unlike an athletic trainer, a strength and conditioning coach is focused primarily on sport performance. The coach help athletes with injury prevention, through strengthening and coaching of movement mechanics within a sport. While a personal trainer may work with individuals of all fitness levels and focus on health or fitness, strength and conditioning coaches focus on competitive athletes and improving performance in a specific sport. In some team sports, a selector is a member of a selection panel which chooses teams or individuals to represent a country or club or other representative team in sporting competitions. For example, a selector in cricket is an administrative position involved in choosing players to represent a particular team in a match. Seán O'Sullivan (footballer)
Seán O'Sullivan is an Irish sportsman who played Gaelic football for the Kerry senior football team and at club level with Cromane GAA club. Playing career Underage O'Sullivan played with the Kerry minor team in 1998. Wins over Waterford after a re-play and Limerick seen him win a Munster Minor Football Championship medal. O'Sullivan and co lost out to Laois in the All-Ireland semi-final. Senior O'Sullivan won his first All-Ireland Senior Football Championship in 2006, after a comprehensive victory over Mayo side in the final on 17 September 2006, in Croke Park. In Gaelic games, a manager or (in Irish) ''bainisteoir'' is involved in the direction and instruction of the on-field operations of a team. The role entails the application of sport tactics and strategies during the game itself, and usually entails substitution of players and other such actions as needed. Bryan Sheehan
Bryan Sheehan (born 25 August 1985) is an Irish Gaelic footballer with the St Mary's club in Cahirciveen, South Kerry divisional side and, formerly, the Kerry county team. He won five All-Ireland SFC medals (2004, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2014). Career Club At club level Sheehan lined out with both St Mary's Cahersiveen and South Kerry. Enjoying much success with both. His first major success with St. Mary's was winning a Kerry County Football League - Division 1 title in 2003. Killian Young
Killian Young (born 4 January 1987 in Tralee) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays Gaelic football with his local club Renard GAA, contests the County Championship with divisional side South Kerry, and was a member of the Kerry senior inter-county team from 2006 to 2019. Having appeared for Kerry in the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship and All-Ireland Under-21 Football Championship, Young made his Kerry senior championship debut in 2006, breaking into the team in 2007. He filled the number 7 jersey when Aidan O'Mahony moved to centre-back to replace Séamus Moynihan. Young played there in the National Football League and retained his place for the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. He was a member of the Kerry team that won Munster and then the All-Ireland that year, and won Young Player of the Year. Kerry Senior Hurling Championship
The Kerry Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as Garvey's SuperValu Senior Hurling Championship) is an annual hurling competition organised by the Kerry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1889 for the top hurling teams in the county of Kerry in Ireland. The series of games are played during the summer months, with the county final currently being played in Austin Stack Park in August. Initially played a knock-out competition, the championship currently uses a double elimination format whereby each team is guaranteed at least two games. The 2020 championship reverted to a straight knock-out format due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Kerry County Championship is an integral part of the wider Munster Intermediate Club Hurling Championship.
