South Horizons West (constituency)
South Horizons West is one of the 17 constituencies in the Southern District, Hong Kong. The constituency returns one district councillor to the Southern District Council, with an election every four years. South Horizons East constituency is loosely based on the western part of the South Horizons in Ap Lei Chau Ap Lei Chau or Aberdeen Island is an island of Hong Kong, located off Hong Kong Island next to Aberdeen Harbour and Aberdeen Channel. 1999 Hong Kong Local Elections
The 1999 Hong Kong District Council elections were held on 28 November 1999 for all 18 districts of Hong Kong, for 390 members from directly elected constituencies out of total 519 council members. It was the first District Council election after the handover of Hong Kong in 1997, replacing the existing Provisional District Councils appointed by Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa. The pro-Beijing camp scored fairly well in the election, with the flagship pro-Beijing party, the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong (DAB), improved its performance in catching up with the Democratic Party, the largest pro-democracy party. The Democratic Party sustained its political momentum by securing 24.9 per cent of the votes as compared to 22.8 per cent in 1994. New People's Party (Hong Kong)
The New People's Party (NPP) is a conservative political party in Hong Kong. Chaired by Regina Ip, it is currently the fourth largest party in the Legislative Council. Established by former senior government official Regina Ip in 2011, the party aims at broadening the middle class and civil servant votes where the pro-Beijing camp had traditionally underperformed. Sin Chung-kai
Sin Chung-kai (; born 15 June 1960) is a former member of the Hong Kong Legislative Council. He was the chairman and a member of Kwai Tsing District Council for the Wah Lai constituency. He was one of the two vice-chairmen of the Democratic Party until December 2012, and now serves as a member of the Executive Committee. Early career In 1982, Sin obtained his bachelor's degree at the University of Hong Kong, where he served as the Current Affairs Secretary of the Student Union. In 1997, he obtained a Master in Business Administration at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Erica Yuen Mi-ming (, born ) is a Hong Kong politician, actress, and presenter. A former Miss Hong Kong pageant participant, she was the chairperson of the People Power political party between 2013 and 2016. Early life Erica Yuen graduated from St. Stephen's College in 1997, and continued her education at Tufts University in Massachusetts, and graduated summa cum laude. Pageantry In 2005, Yuen participated in the Miss Hong Kong pageant where she was awarded the title of Tourism Ambassador and was named one of the top five finalists on the final night. 2015 Hong Kong Local Elections
The 2015 Hong Kong District Council elections were held on 22 November 2015. Elections were held to all 18 District Councils with returning 431 members from directly elected constituencies after all appointed seats had been abolished. A record-breaking 1.4 million voters, or 47 per cent of the registered voters, went to cast their votes. The pro-Beijing camp retained its control of all 18 councils with the Beijing-loyalist party Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong (DAB) maintained the largest party far ahead of other parties. Kelvin Ho-Por Lam (Chinese: 林浩波, born June 1979) is a Hong Kong politician and macro-economist who formerly served as Southern District Councillor for the South Horizons (West) from 2020 until 2021. Independent Democrat (Hong Kong)
The pro-democracy camp, also known as the pan-democracy camp, is a political alignment in Hong Kong that supports increased democracy, namely the universal suffrage of the Chief Executive and the Legislative Council as given by the Basic Law under the " One Country, Two Systems" framework. The pro-democrats generally embrace liberal values such as rule of law, human rights, civil liberties and social justice, though their economic positions vary.
