South Hills Village Station
South Hills Village is a station on Pittsburgh Regional Transit's light rail network. It is the southern terminus of both the Red and Blue lines. Port Authority's switching yard and shops are located just west of the station. The station is located in Bethel Park, PA and is adjacent to the South Hills Village shopping complex. A large 7 floor, 2200 space parking garage was completed in 2004 at a cost of $21.6 million ($ million in adjusted for inflation) and is located on site for commuters traveling from Pittsburgh's South Hills suburbs. The station itself is located at the center-back (south side) of the first floor of the garage. In addition to serving as a commuter stop, the site also handles much reverse flow traffic of shoppers from the city and more northerly suburbs. A side platform (also known as a marginal platform or a single-face platform) is a platform positioned to the side of one or more railway tracks or guideways at a railway station, tram stop, or transitway. The Red Line (formerly the 42S South Hills Village via Beechview) is a line on the Pittsburgh Light Rail system that runs between South Hills Village and Downtown Pittsburgh via the Beechview neighborhood. The Blue Line is a Pittsburgh Light Rail line that runs between Downtown Pittsburgh via the Overbrook neighborhood to South Hills Village (formerly 47S South Hills Village via Overbrook). History The line from South Hills Junction to Castle Shannon (now called the Overbrook Line) was first constructed by the Pittsburgh and Castle Shannon Railroad between 1872 and 1874. In 1905 Pittsburgh Railways leased the route and between 1909 and 1910 converted it from narrow gauge to dual gauge and installed overhead power for trolleys. Bethel Park, officially the Municipality of Bethel Park, is a borough with home rule status in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area, located approximately southwest of Pittsburgh. The population was 33,577 as of the 2020 census. South Hills Village is a two-level shopping mall located in the Pittsburgh suburbs of Bethel Park and Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania, United States. History The mall was originally developed in the mid-1960s by the Oxford Development Co. as the first shopping complex in Greater Pittsburgh to be built as a fully enclosed structure. The two-level complex is currently owned by Simon Property Group, who acquired it in 1997.
