South High School (Bakersfield, California)
South High School is 1 of the 32 high school located in the Kern County District of Bakersfield, California in the United States. The school has approximately 2,150 students. As of May 7, 2021 the school mascot is known as the “Spartans” following a year long review committee determination examine the prior mascot 'Rebel Man'' or ''Johnny Rebel'' which was patterned after a Confederate soldier. Sports teams formerly referred to as the Rebels will now be known as the Spartans. History The official South High School website states that the school was originally founded in 1957 and was surrounded by farmlands. Softball
Softball is a game similar to baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Softball is played competitively at club levels, the college level, and the professional level. Korn
Korn (stylized as KoЯn, or occasionally KoRn) is an American nu metal band from Bakersfield, California, formed in 1993. The band is notable for pioneering the nu metal genre and bringing it into the mainstream. David Silveria
David Randall Silveria (born September 21, 1972) is an American drummer, best known as the original drummer for nu metal band Korn from 1993 until leaving the band in 2006. He then became the drummer for Infinika, which was formed in 2012 and disbanded in 2015. As of 2019, Silveria is the drummer of a band called Breaking in a Sequence (B.I.A.S). Rick Ravon Mears (born December 3, 1951) is a retired American race car driver. He is one of four men to win the Indianapolis 500 four times (1979, 1984, 1988, 1991) and is the current record-holder for pole positions in the race with six (1979, 1982, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1991). Brent McClanahan
Brent McClanahan (born September 21, 1952 in Bakersfield, California) is a former professional American football player who played running back for seven seasons for the Minnesota Vikings. He is now a teacher at South High School in Bakersfield, CA. Career Brent McClanahan played for the Minnesota Vikings, until his retirement. His contract was cut short because of injuries. Natalie Dunn
Natalie Dunn, also known as Natalie Dunn Fries, (born 1956) was the first American woman to win the world championship in figure roller-skating, which she did in 1976. She won her first event at age seven, and won the national women's single at age sixteen. She was inducted into the Bob Elias Kern County Sports Hall of Fame in February 1978. In 1979, the Supersisters trading card set was produced and distributed; one of the cards featured Dunn's name and picture. Winston Arnel Crite (born June 20, 1965) is a retired American professional basketball player who currently trains young players. After a very successful career at Texas A&M University, Crite was selected with 53rd overall (7th in third round) pick in the 1987 NBA draft by the Phoenix Suns and spent two following seasons in the NBA playing for Suns.
