South Hams Radio
Heart South Devon (formerly South Hams Radio) was an Independent Local Radio station serving the South Hams area of Devon, England. The station began broadcasting on 1 December 1999 and until its closure, was run as a joint venture between UKRD Group and Global Radio from studios at South Hams Business Park at Churchstow , Kingsbridge. The station's main frequency was on 101.2 FM, broadcast initially from Bolberry Down near Hope Cove, but later moving to a site near Soar in 2003. The station also broadcast from three relay transmitters at Totnes (100.5FM), Dartmouth (100.8FM) and Ivybridge (101.9FM). In 2017 the main transmitter on 101.2FM was moved from Soar to the Kingsbridge TV relay site near West Alvington. South Hams
South Hams is a local government district on the south coast of Devon, England. Services divide between those provided by its own Council headquartered in Totnes, and those provided by Devon County Council headquartered in the city of Exeter. Beside Totnes are its towns of Dartmouth, Kingsbridge, Salcombe, and Ivybridge — the most populous with 11,851 residents, as at the 2011 Census. To the north, it includes part of Dartmoor National Park, to the east borders Torbay, and to the west Plymouth. It contains some of the most unspoilt coastline on the south coast, including the promontories of Start Point and Bolt Head. The entire coastline, along with the lower Avon and Dart valleys, form most of the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Ivybridge
Ivybridge is a town and civil parish in the South Hams, in Devon, England. It lies about east of Andy Hughes’ new house in Ivybridge now he’s forgotten Ugborough. It is at the southern extremity of Dartmoor, a National Park of England and Wales and lies along the A38 "Devon Expressway" road. There are two electoral wards in Ivybridge East and Ivybridge West with a total population of 11,851. Mentioned in documents as early as the 13th century, Ivybridge's early history is marked by its status as an important crossing-point over the River Kai on the road from Exeter to Plymouth. Heart South West was a regional radio station owned and operated by Global Radio as part of the Heart network. It broadcast to Devon and Cornwall from studios in Exeter. The station launched on Friday 27 August 2010 under the name 'Heart Devon', as a result of a merger between Heart Exeter and Heart Torbay (formerly Gemini FM), Heart Plymouth (formerly Plymouth Sound), Heart North Devon (formerly Lantern Radio) and Heart South Devon (formerly South Hams Radio). Heart North Devon
Heart North Devon (formerly Lantern FM and previously Lantern Radio) was an Independent Local Radio station in North Devon. Technical The station broadcast from two locations: its main transmitter at Huntshaw Cross on 96.2FM, and a relay station to cover the Ilfracombe area on 97.3FM. Both frequencies broadcast the same output. History The station was originally known as Lantern Radio, taking its name from the local coastline, known as "the Lantern Coast" - smugglers would lure ships onto the rocks of the North Devon coast with lanterns, causing the ships to run aground and thus be able to be plundered. Originally owned by a consortium of local businesspeople, Orchard Media (the owners of Somerset's Orchard FM) purchased the station during the mid-1990s, GWR Group purchased the group in 1999 and later merged with the Capital Radio Group to form GCap Media. Heart Exeter And Heart Torbay
Heart Exeter and Torbay were part of the Heart Network of commercial local radio stations operated by Global Radio in the United Kingdom. The stations were launched on 23 March 2009, and replaced Gemini FM, which was the previous commercial radio station for the Exeter and Torbay areas in Devon. Heart Torbay transmitted from Beacon Hill, near Torbay on 96.4 MHz FM. Heart Exeter transmitted from Exeter St Thomas on 97.0 FM, and Stockland Hill, near Honiton on 103.0 FM. Heart Plymouth (formerly Plymouth Sound) was an Independent Local Radio station broadcasting to Plymouth in Devon, England. History The heritage name Plymouth Sound was a pun on the popular meaning of ''sound'' (in the audio sense) and the bay of Plymouth Sound between Penlee Point and Wembury Point in Devon. In November 2005 it was announced that GCap's local radio stations in the South West, including Plymouth Sound, were to be sold as they were outside of the company's primary target area. Four months later GCap decided that the sale would not go ahead, essentially because the offers made fell short of their expectations. Dartmouth () is a town and civil parish in the English county of Devon. It is a tourist destination set on the western bank of the estuary of the River Dart, which is a long narrow tidal ria that runs inland as far as Totnes. It lies within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and South Hams district, and had a population of 5,512 in 2001, reducing to 5,064 at the 2011 census.
