The South Croydon Football Club is an Australian rules football club located in South Croydon, Victoria. They play in Division 1 of the Eastern Football League. History The South Croydon Football Club was founded in 1969 and fielded its first senior side in the same year. The club has won senior premierships in 3rd division of the Eastern Football League in 1973, 2001 and 2006. The club has won senior premierships in 2nd division of the Eastern Football League in 1983, 1988, 1991 and 2009. The club has been in the 1st division of the Eastern Football League since 2010 and won the 2017 1st division premiership, the club's first top flight premiership in history. Eastern Football League (Australia)
The Eastern Football Netball League (known previously as the Eastern Districts Football League and later the Eastern Football League) is an Australian rules football league, based in the eastern suburbs of metropolitan Melbourne. History The Eastern Districts Football League was established on 15 February 1962, but its origins can be traced back to the Reporter District Football League established in 1903. From 1927 until World War 2, the league was known as the Ringwood District Football League. It was known as the Croydon District Football League and the Croydon Mail Football League between World War 2 and 1949. In 1950 the league became known as the Croydon-Ferntree Gully League. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). Croydon South is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 27 km east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Maroondah local government area. Croydon South recorded a population of 4,759 at the 2021 census. Croydon South has a small shopping strip, on the corner of Eastfield and Bayswater Roads, incorporating over 20 retail outlets and a post office. Matt Jones (born 18 October 1987) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was recruited by the club with 53rd selection in the 2012 national draft after playing for South Croydon and Box Hill. He made his debut in round 1, 2013, against at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Brett Montgomery
Brett Montgomery (born 1 June 1973) is a retired Australian rules football player and current assistant coach with the Port Adelaide Football Club. Early life Montgomery, known as "Monty", was originally recruited from South Croydon, and was recruited by Essendon Football Club (U19's & reserves) but was dropped from their list in 1991. Montgomery was also a talented cricketer, and had captained the under-19s Victorian team. In 1992 and 1993 he played club cricket in the Durham League and Middlesex League in England, before returning to Australia to refresh his Australian rules football career. He played with VFL side Springvale, playing in a premiership, then being picked up by Footscray, on their supplementary list. He won their reserves best and fairest, and finally at the end of 1996 was recruited to the Bulldogs' senior list (who had, by the time Montgomery first played in 1997, changed their name to the Western Bulldogs) for his chance to play at AFL level. Western Bulldogs
The Western Bulldogs are a professional Australian rules football team that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), the sport's premier competition. Founded in 1877 as the Footscray Football Club, and based in West Footscray in the old City of Footscray west of Melbourne, the club won nine premierships in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) before gaining admission to the Victorian Football League (which became the AFL in 1990) in 1925.
