South Carolina Highway 517 (SC 517, also known as Isle of Palms (IOP) Connector or Clyde Moultrie Dangerfield Highway) is a state highway in the eastern part of the Charleston, South Carolina metropolitan area. It exists completely within Charleston County, in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of South Carolina. The highway travels in a southeast–northwest orientation from Isle of Palms to Mount Pleasant. Most of the highway consists of the Isle of Palms Connector Bridge. Route description SC 517 begins at an intersection with SC 703 (Palm Boulevard) in Isle of Palms. It passes over the Intracoastal Waterway. The only significant intersection on the route, aside from each terminus, is with Rifle Range Road. The highway, signed as north-south, travels in a northwest-southeast direction connecting the cities of Rock Hill, York and Blacksburg. Route description SC 5 begins with a semi-interchange with US 521 near Van Wyck. Going northwesterly nearly its entire route, it crosses the Catawba River entering York County. Blackville, South Carolina
Blackville is a small town in Barnwell County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 2,406 at the 2010 census. The town was named after Alexander Black, a railroad promoter. History On December 22, 1781, a band of British Loyalists fought with a group of local Patriots two miles north of Blackville. The location, called Windy Hill at that time, is slightly east of the present-day Healing Springs Park and Church. The commanding officer was Captain Benjamin Odom, Jr. who was a member of Colonel William Harden's regiment. Sixteen Patriots were killed. The highway travels in a C-shape from a point approximately southeast of Varnville northwest and north to Barnwell, and then northeast to Swansea. Route description SC 703 begins at a partial interchange with U.S. Route 17 (US 17; Johnnie Dodds Boulevard) in Mount Pleasant, within Charleston County. This interchange is on the eastern end of the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge and just south of the Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park. The Isle of Palms Connector Bridge connects the town of Mount Pleasant with the Isle of Palms in South Carolina. The bridge is part of, and comprises most of the length of, South Carolina Highway 517, which is commonly known as the "Isle of Palms Connector", and bears the official name of "Clyde Moultrie Dangerfield Highway".
