South Carolina Highway 357 (SC 357) is a state highway that travels from Greer to Campobello through some of the rural parts of western Spartanburg County, South Carolina. Route description SC 357 begins at an intersection with SC 290 (East Poinsett Street) and SC 101 (South Line Street) in Greer, and is named North Line Street until it intersects Arlington Avenue. At that point, road name changes to Arlington Road, and then intersects U.S. Route 29 (US 29; East Wade Hampton Boulevard). From there, it goes down into unincorporated Apalache, where it turns to the east, crosses the South Tyger River, and then continues solely as SC 357. South Carolina Highway 290 (SC 290) is a state highway in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of South Carolina. It courses through central Greenville and Spartanburg Counties. Route description The west terminus of South Carolina Highway 290 is with its junction with US Highway 25 (US 25) approximately halfway between Travelers Rest and Tigerville. It generally follows a southeast route through the small villages of Locust Hill and Sandy Flat before entering Greer. Within Greer, its course changes to an easterly direction and it continues over the county border into Spartanburg County. Tyger River
The Tyger River is a stream in the U.S. state of South Carolina, and a tributary of the Broad River. It is part of the Santee River Basin. It is a generally shallow and narrow river. Lyman, South Carolina
Lyman is a town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. Its population was 6,173 at the 2020 census. History The town of Lyman originally grew around a general store owned by Augustus Belton Groce, which opened in the mid-1870s. This led to the community becoming known as Groce's Stop. In 1923, the Groce family sold over to Pacific Mills. By the following year the Lyman Printing and Finishing Mill had been constructed, and by 1927, Pacific Mills had built 375 homes as housing for their employees. The town was then renamed in memory of Arthur T. Lyman, a former president of the mill. Lyman prospered for years as a textile town, but by 2005 the last mill was closed. The Pacific Mills company kept up their employees' houses, the streets and the back alleys. The back alleys were dirt, so crews from the plant would bring dump trucks of cinders from the burnt coal at the boiler room, and spread them up and down the back alleys to keep them from getting muddy.
