South Carolina Highway 129 (SC 129) is a state highway in the U.S. state of South Carolina. It connects Falling Creek Road near Spartanburg with U.S. Route 29 (US 29) and SC 292 in Lyman. It also has an interchange with Interstate 85 (I-85) just north of its southern terminus. The highway is known as Fort Prince Boulevard. Route description History The route was built c. 1952, around the same time as the original construction of I-85 north of Spartanburg (now mainly Interstate 85 Business). Lyman, South Carolina
Lyman is a town in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, United States. Its population was 6,173 at the 2020 census. History The town of Lyman originally grew around a general store owned by Augustus Belton Groce, which opened in the mid-1870s. This led to the community becoming known as Groce's Stop. In 1923, the Groce family sold over to Pacific Mills. By the following year the Lyman Printing and Finishing Mill had been constructed, and by 1927, Pacific Mills had built 375 homes as housing for their employees. The town was then renamed in memory of Arthur T. Lyman, a former president of the mill. Lyman prospered for years as a textile town, but by 2005 the last mill was closed. The Pacific Mills company kept up their employees' houses, the streets and the back alleys. The back alleys were dirt, so crews from the plant would bring dump trucks of cinders from the burnt coal at the boiler room, and spread them up and down the back alleys to keep them from getting muddy. South Carolina Highway 292 (SC 292) is a state highway in the U.S. state of South Carolina. The highway connects Duncan and the Inman area, via Lyman. Route description SC 292 begins at an intersection with SC 290 (West Main Street) in Duncan, within Spartanburg County. It travels to the east-northeast, crosses railroad tracks, and curves to the northeast. It crosses over the Middle Tyger River and enters Lyman. The highway crosses railroad tracks before passing Lyman Park. At Groce Road, SC 292 turns left and travels to the north-northwest. Three blocks later, it intersects U.S. Route 29 (US 29). Interstate 85 Business (I-85 Bus. or BL 85) is a business loop of the Interstate Highway System. It is entirely a freeway running along the old route of I-85 in the vicinity of Spartanburg, South Carolina, United States. It is the only freeway to connect with I-585, which is now an isolated piece of the Interstate Highway System (as Interstate business routes themselves are considered isolated from the Interstate System). Route description I-85 Bus. leaves I-85 at a northbound-only offramp, with a southbound flyunder ramp. The first on- and offramps are with local streets used as frontage roads leading to Road 41 (North Blackstock Road).
