South African Ministry Of Intelligence Services
The Minister of State Security (formerly the Minister of Intelligence Services) was a Minister (government), Minister of the Government of South Africa, South African government, who oversaw South Africa's civilian intelligence agency, intelligence agencies and national security matters. In 2021 the ministry was abolished and the function of the minister was taken over by the Presidency. Formation In 1994, the intelligence service affairs were subordinated to the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development (South Africa), Minister of Justice. In 1995, Joe Nhlanhla became Deputy Minister of Justice with responsibility for intelligence affairs. When Jacob Zuma was elected president in 2009 he renamed the post to Minister of State Security, but kept Siyabonga Cwele in the job. The flag of South Africa was designed in March 1994 and adopted on 27 April 1994, at the beginning of South Africa's South African general election, 1994, 1994 general election, to replace the flag that had been used since 1928. National Intelligence Agency (South Africa)
The National Intelligence Agency (NIA) was the previous name of an intelligence agency of the South African government. Currently it is known as the Domestic Branch of the State Security Agency. It is responsible for domestic and counter-intelligence within the Republic of South Africa. The branch is run by a Director, who reports to the Director-General of the State Security Agency. The Director is also a member of the National Intelligence Co-Ordinating Committee (NICOC). Origins The NIA was formed in 1994, the same year South Africa's first multi-racial elections were held. Ronald Kasrils (born 15 November 1938) is a South African politician, Marxist revolutionary, guerrilla and military commander. He was Minister for Intelligence Services from 27 April 2004 to 25 September 2008.
