South Africa Women's National Ice Hockey Team
The South Africa women's national ice hockey team represents South Africa at the International Ice Hockey Federation's IIHF World Women's Championships. The women's national team is controlled by South African Ice Hockey Association. The South African national team is the only national women's ice hockey team on the entire African continent. As of 2012, South Africa has 52 female players. The South Africa women's national team is ranked 32nd in the world. History The South African women's national ice hockey team has participated in International Ice Hockey Federation events since the 1999 IIHF Women's World Championship. At their first World Championship in 1999, the team were unable to qualify for the B World Championship held the next year. 2005 IIHF Women's World Championship
The 2005 IIHF World Women's Championships was held April 2–9, 2005, in Linköping, at Cloetta Center (now called the Saab Arena), and Norrköping, at Himmelstalundshallen, in Sweden. USA won their first gold medal at the World Championships, defeating the defending champions Canada in a penalty shootout. The 2022 IIHF Women's World Championship Division II were two international ice hockey tournaments organised by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). The Group A tournament was played in Jaca, Spain, from 3 to 8 April 2022 and the Group B tournament in Zagreb, Croatia, from 17 to 22 May 2022. Entering the competition, there were no divisional changes, as the 2021 event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2021 IIHF Women's World Championship Division II was scheduled to be two international ice hockey tournaments organised by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The Division II Group A tournament would have been held in Jaca, Spain, from 10 to 16 April 2021 and the Division II Group B tournament in Zagreb, Croatia, from 7 to 13 March 2021. In 2020, Australia was initially promoted but after Division II Group A was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they remain in Division II Group B. The 2014 IIHF Women's World Championship Division II was an ice hockey competition consisting of three tournaments. The Division II Group A tournament was played in Asiago, Italy, from 6 to 12 April 2014. The Division II Group B was played from 24 to 30 March 2014 in Reykjavík, Iceland. The qualification tournament was held in Mexico City, Mexico, from 19 to 22 March 2014. The winners of Division II Group A were promoted to the Division I Group B for the 2015 championship, while the last-placed team was relegated to the Division II Group B. The Group B winners moved up to Group A, while the last placed team was relegated to the 2015 Division II Group B Qualification.
