It is also the first single released featuring original lead singer Brett Scallions since Fuel's 2003 studio album ''Natural Selection''. About the song, lead singer Brett Scallions says, "Lyrically, 'Soul to Preach To' is about regret. I think we all look upon our past when we get to a certain age and think that there may have been things we could have done differently in our lives. When we recorded the song we tracked everything for the most part but something seemed to still be missing. Luckily my friend Slash let me borrow a dobro and the melody in the verses was then written. At that point the song felt complete." Fuel is an American rock band formed in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, by guitarist-songwriter Carl Bell in 1989. ''Puppet Strings'' is the fifth studio album by American rock band Fuel. Released March 4, 2014, it is their first and only studio effort since 2003's ''Natural Selection'' to feature original lead singer Brett Scallions and the only Fuel album not to feature original songwriter/guitarist, Carl Bell and bassist Jeff Abercrombie. Additionally, no one who participated in the recording of ''Puppet Strings'' participated in the recording of Fuel's previous album '' Angels & Devils'' or the next album ''Anomaly''. It is the final album to feature Brett Scallions on vocals as he left in 2020 due to unresolved differences. Background Fuel became inactive after their ''Angels & Devils'' tour in 2007-2008. Hard Rock
Hard rock or heavy rock is a loosely defined subgenre of rock music typified by aggressive vocals and distorted electric guitars. Hard rock began in the mid-1960s with the garage, psychedelic and blues rock movements. Brett Allen Scallions (born December 21, 1971) is an American singer. He is best known for being the original lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist for the alternative rock band Fuel. Brad Stewart (born November 19, 1974) is an American bassist, best known for his work with hard rock bands Shinedown and Fuel. He now plays in Saliva, Society Red, and Burn Season. Career Shinedown Stewart was the second member to join Shinedown after vocalist Brent Smith. They met through a mutual friend of Smith’s A&R contact, local Jacksonville producer Pete Thornton. In March 2007, it was reported that Stewart had left Shinedown. No official statement was made, leaving fans to speculate. On September 20, 2008 on his newly-created MySpace account, Stewart posted a lengthy blog that provided information about his time with Shinedown and his controversial departure.
