Soul Destruction
''Soul Destruction'' is the second studio album (third overall) released by Scottish rock band The Almighty. It was released by Polydor Records in the United Kingdom in 1991. According to frontman Ricky Warwick, the album's songs centered on four subjects: It was The Almighty's last album with founding guitarist Tantrum who would be replaced by Alice Cooper guitarist Pete Friesen before the recording of their next album, ''Powertrippin'''. Upon release the album peaked at number 22 on the British album charts. Three singles were released from the album in multiple formats in 1991. "Free 'n' Easy" (promo CD, 12" vinyl, 7" vinyl, cassette), "Devil's Toy" (promo CD, 7" & 12" vinyl) and "Little Lost Sometimes" (promo CD, 12" & 7" vinyl). The Japanese release of ''Soul Destruction'' included two bonus tracks, "Bodies", a Sex Pistols cover and an acoustic version of "Hell to Pay". The Almighty (band)
The Almighty were a Scottish hard rock/ heavy metal band from Glasgow formed in 1988. Three of the founding members, Ricky Warwick, Stump Monroe and Floyd London were friends who met at school. Although the band members musical roots were in punk, the Almighty adopted a more heavy metal/hard rock oriented musical direction in their early years. Later albums saw the band's musical style move towards the band members' original punk roots. They have released seven studio albums, two anthologies and one live album. History 1988–1993 The Almighty were formed in Strathaven on 19 January 1988. Most of the musicians came from a punk background. Alice Cooper (born Vincent Damon Furnier, February 4, 1948) is an American rock singer whose career spans over five decades. With a raspy voice and a stage show that features numerous props and stage illusions, including pyrotechnics, guillotines, electric chairs, fake blood, reptiles, baby dolls, and dueling swords, Cooper is considered by many music journalists and peers to be "The Godfather of Shock Rock". Spinefarm Records is a Finnish independent record label focusing mainly on heavy metal artists. It is a subsidiary of Universal Music Group. History Spinefarm Records was originally founded in 1990 by Riku Pääkkönen as a mail-order distribution company for rock and heavy metal albums and singles, but later became a record label for Finnish acts such as Nightwish, Children of Bodom, and Sonata Arctica. The Sex Pistols were an English punk rock band formed in London in 1975. Bodies (Sex Pistols Song)
"Bodies" is a song by the Sex Pistols, from their 1977 album '' Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols''. The song tackles the subject of abortion with lyrics described as "some of the most uncompromising, gut-wrenching lyrics imaginable". Lyrical content The lyrics contain very graphic imagery about a terminated foetus and feature a great deal of profanity for the time: the third and final verse begins with a couplet in which the word ''fuck'' is repeated five times in rapid succession. The song is mostly about a fan named Pauline, who was (as the song states) from Birmingham. She had been in a mental institution, where she apparently lived in a tree house in its garden. The twelve-inch single (often written as 12-inch or 12″) is a type of vinyl ( polyvinyl chloride or PVC) gramophone record that has wider groove spacing and shorter playing time with a 'single' or a few related sound tracks on each surface, compared to LPs (long play) which have several songs on each side. Pete Friesen
Pete Friesen (born Peter Menno Friesen; 19 November 1965) is a Canadian guitarist who has recorded with such acts as Alice Cooper, The Almighty and Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson. Biography Pete Friesen was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. While still playing under the name "Pete Freezin'", he was a member of VO5 with a pre-Skid Row Sebastian Bach. He was a member of Alice Cooper's band from 1989–1991, 1998–2000 and 2002. He played on both the ''Trash'' and ''Hey Stoopid'' tours, and also appears in the film ''Wayne's World'' alongside Cooper, where he memorably asked the question "In fact, isn't Milwaukee an Indian name?" Friesen left Cooper's band in 1992 and moved to the UK to join Scottish rock band The Almighty. He recorded and toured with the band from 1992 until 1996. Ricky Warwick
Ricky Warwick (born 11 July 1966) is a Northern Irish musician and the lead singer of the rock bands Black Star Riders and Thin Lizzy. He is also the frontman for the Scottish hard rock band The Almighty, with whom he achieved chart success in the UK throughout the 1990s, although the band is currently on hiatus. Warwick has released several solo albums and performed with a variety of other bands and artists, and also fronts his own band, The Fighting Hearts, to showcase his solo material. Early life Warwick was born in Newtownards, County Down, where he spent his formative years, and got his first guitar at 14 years old. He was soon playing along to songs by various rock and country acts such as Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash. Hard Rock
Hard rock or heavy rock is a loosely defined subgenre of rock music typified by aggressive vocals and distorted electric guitars. Hard rock began in the mid-1960s with the garage, psychedelic and blues rock movements. Some of the earliest hard rock music was produced by the Kinks, the Who, The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Cream, Vanilla Fudge, and the Jimi Hendrix Experience.
