Sorø Museum
Sorø Museum is a local history, local history museum in Sorø, Denmark. It is housed within an old inn from 1624, one of the oldest buildings in the town. History King Christian IV of Denmark, Christian IV ordered the establishment of the inn on 13 January 1624 so that visitors to his new Knight academy, which had opened the previous year, would not have to stay within the school grounds. Construction began the same year and was completed in 1625. The building later served as residences for professors at the Academy. The site also included a slaughterhouse. It has been a museum since 1923. Architecture The original building towards the street is 15 bays long and in two storeys. A number of details are typical of the Renaissance architecture, Renaissance. Architect Frederik Carl Christian Hansen (1858–1823) designed an expansion of the building in 1899–1900 with two lateral wings, in one storey and with large gabled dormers, which project from its rear side. Sorø Art Museum
Sorø Art Museum is an art museum located in Sorø, Denmark. It displays a representative collection of Danish art as well as a collection of Russian art, covering both painting from 1870 to 1930 and Russian icons, and also hosts special exhibitions both of classical and contemporary art. The museum is housed within a listed Neoclassical house, part of a traditional Danish market town setting along Sorø's main street, which was expanded by the architects Lundgaard & Tranberg in 2011, tripling its size. Building The museum's original building was constructed from 1832 to 1834 as residence for the estate managers at Sorø Academy. It is a two-storey Late Neoclassical building over a high cellar, probably designed by Frederik Ferdinand Friis who also designed the Rectory at Sorø Academy.
