Danish Language
Danish (; , ) is a North Germanic language spoken by about six million people, principally in and around Denmark. Communities of Danish speakers are also found in Greenland, the Faroe Islands, and the northern German region of Southern Schleswig, where it has minority language status. Minor Danish-speaking communities are also found in Norway, Sweden, the United States, Canada, Brazil, and Argentina. Along with the other North Germanic languages, Danish is a descendant of Old Norse, the common language of the Germanic peoples who lived in Scandinavia during the Viking Era. Danish, together with Swedish, derives from the ''East Norse'' dialect group, while the Middle Norwegian language (before the influence of Danish) and Norwegian Bokmål are classified as ''West Norse'' along with Faroese and Icelandic. A more recent classification based on mutual intelligibility separates modern spoken Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish as "mainland (or ''continental'') Scandinavian", while I ...

Niels Skovgaard
Niels Kristian Skovgaard (2 November 1858 – 3 February 1938) was a Danish painter and sculptor. His statue of N.F.S. Grundtvig is considered to be a masterpiece of Danish sculpture. Biography Born in Copenhagen, Skovgaard was the son of the notable Danish Golden Age painter P.C. Skovgaard (1817–75). Like his brother Joakim Skovgaard (1856–1933), he was introduced to art by his father who encouraged him to paint in the open air. Artist Janus la Cour (1837–1909) who lived in the Skovgaard home, was also a source of inspiration. He attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1874 to 1879 but left without receiving a diploma. Unlike his brother, he was not attracted by the modern painting trends in France despite a visit to Paris in 1883. He was more interested in the styles of painting he experienced in the Netherlands which induced him to paint landscapes on the North Sea coast which showed his mastery of light and air together with a sensitive approach to colour. He served as part of the Provincial Gendarmerie where his role was to assist with the modernization of the Siamese military. Irma (supermarket)
Irma is a high-end chain of supermarkets in Copenhagen and other parts of eastern Denmark. History Origin and growth (1886–1942) The Irma chain traces its history back to 1886 when Karen Marie Schepler established a store named Tavnsborggade Mælkeforsyning at Ravnsborggade 13 in the Nørrebro district of Copenhagen. Her son Carl Schepler (1870-1942) took it over in 1898. The store started as a retailer of milk and eggs but later expanded into packaged groceries such as tea and sugar. Schepler also opened more stores and changed the name to Carl Scheplers Udsalg. The chain had grown to 110 stores at the time of his death in 1942. New owners and Børge Olsen (1943–1979) None of Schepler's heirs wanted to take over the company and it was therefore sold to a consortium of four egg wholesalers. The name of the stores were changed to Irma in 1943 and the Irma girl was adopted as its new logo. Børge Olsen joined the company as assistant director in 1946 and became managing dir ...
