''Sophie and the Crime'' (French: ''Sophie et le crime'') is a 1955 French crime film, crime drama film directed by Pierre Gaspard-Huit and starring Marina Vlady, Peter van Eyck and Jean Gaven. It was shot at the Neuilly Studios in Paris. The film's sets were designed by the art director Paul Bertrand. It is based on the 1953 novel of the same title by Jacques Laurent.Goble p.404 It is also known by the alternative title ''The Girl on the Third Floor''. Synopsis Sophie Brulard, a young journalist on a magazine, helps shelter her neighbour Franck Richter who is accused of killing his wife. He persuades her of his innocence, and she sets out to clear his name. Pierre Gaspard-Huit (29 November 1917 – 1 May 2017) was a French film director and screenwriter. He directed the 1963 film '' Shéhérazade'', which starred Anna Karina. Daniel Emilfork (7 April 1924 – 17 October 2006) was a Chilean stage and film actor who made his career in France. Biography Emilfork was born in San Felipe, Chile after his Jewish socialist parents from Kiev fled a pogrom in Odessa. At age 25, he left Chile and settled in France, because, according to his friend Alejandro Jodorowsky, he didn't feel comfortable being a homosexual man in Chile. Emilfork's face was out of the norm and had made him a choice character actor for films such as ''The City of Lost Children'' (1995). He specialized in roles of villains. Previously he had played in ''The Devil's Nightmare'' (1971), ''Travels with My Aunt'' (1972) and ''Fellini's Casanova'' (1976), in Roman Polanski's ''Pirates'' (1986) and in '' Taxandria'' (1994). Yvette Lebon (14 August 1910 – 28 July 2014) was a French actress. Biography Lebon studied music and art before going into acting. During World War II, she was the mistress of Jean Luchaire, a French journalist and press baron executed after the war for collaboration with France's German occupiers.
