Sookha
Sookha (English: The Famine) is a 1983 Hindi drama film directed by M. S. Sathyu, starring Anant Nag, C. R. Simha, Lovelin Madhu and Pankaj Dheer. Based on the Kannada novel ''Bara'' by eminent writer U. R. Ananthamurthy, the story deals with the politics of famine in Karnataka. An idealistic officer eventually succumbs to bureaucratic apathy - famine relief arrives, but too late. The Kannada version the film titled '' Bara'' was released in 1982, and had won National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Kannada. However, unlike the Kannada version, the film couldn't get a theatrical release, later it was shown on state-run Doordarshan channel. At the 31st National Film Awards, it won the award for Best Feature Film on National Integration. Shama Zaidi
Shama Zaidi (born 25 September 1938) is an Indian screenplay writer, costume designer, art director, theatre person, art critic, and documentary film maker. She is married to director M. S. Sathyu. Shama Zaidi Was Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award at ICA - International Cultural Artifact Film Festival in 2021. Background Shama Zaidi is the daughter of Bashir Hussain Zaidi, a politician and educationist, and his wife Qudsia Zaidi. Her mother Qudsia was an associate of Habib Tanvir, the communist ideologue and theatre personality. Shama was the only daughter of the couple and she has two brothers. Both her parents were closely associated with the "progressive" communist movement in India, and Shama grew up in a strongly left-wing environment. She was educated at Woodstock School, Mussoorie, and then at Miranda House, New Delhi. The Filmfare Critics Award for Best Film is awarded during annual Filmfare Awards, given by the Filmfare magazine. Pankaj Dheer is an Indian actor who appears in Hindi films and TV series. He is known for his role of Karna in TV series ''Mahabharat and'' other roles in '' Chandrakanta'', ''The Great Maratha'', '' Yug'' and '' Badho Bahu''. He appeared in several Hindi films in small roles, including ''Sadak'', ''Soldier'' and '' Baadshah''. Personal life Dheer has a son, Nikitin Dheer, who is also an actor. ''Bara'' ( kn, ಬರ en, Drought) is a 1982 Kannada film directed and produced by M. S. Sathyu. It is based on the novel of same name by U. R. Ananthamurthy. The film starred Anant Nag, C. R. Simha and Loveleen Madhu in lead roles. The film won many laurels upon release including the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Kannada for its script of an incisive analysis of the socio-political situation in a drought affected district. The film went on floors in 1980 and made its theatrical release in 1982. The Hindi version of the film ''Sookha'' was released in 1983. Javed Siddiqi (13 January 1942) is a Hindi and Urdu screenwriter, dialogue writer and playwright from India. He has written over 50 storylines, screenplays and dialogues.
