Sony World Photography Awards
The World Photography Organisation is a global platform for photography initiatives and helps artists working in photography broaden the conversation around their work. Established in 2007 by CEO Scott Gray, in the United kingdom it involves people and organisations from more than 180 countries. The World Photography Organisation hosts a year-round portfolio of events including the Sony World Photography Awards, and Photofairs—art fairs dedicated to presenting fine art photography and moving image. Elliott Erwitt
Elliott Erwitt (born Elio Romano Erwitt, July 26, 1928) is a French-born American advertising and documentary photographer known for his black and white candid photos of ironic and absurd situations within everyday settings. He has been a member of Magnum Photos since 1953. Early life Erwitt was born in Paris, France, to Jewish-Russian immigrant parents, who soon moved to Italy. In 1939, when he was ten, his family migrated to the United States. He studied photography and filmmaking at Los Angeles City College and the New School for Social Research, finishing his education in 1950. In 1951 he was drafted into the Army, and discharged in 1953. Craig Easton (photographer)
Craig Easton is a British photographer who lives in The Wirral and works on long-term social documentary projects that deal with the representation of communities in the North of England. He has made work about women working in the UK fish processing industry; about the inter-generational nature of poverty and economic hardship in Northern England; about social deprivation, housing, unemployment and immigration in Blackburn; and about how the situation in which young people throughout the UK live, influences their aspirations. Alys Tomlinson
Alys Tomlinson (born 1975) is a British photographer. She has published the books ''Following Broadway'' (2013), ''Ex-Voto'' (2019), ''Lost Summer'' (2020) and ''Gli Isolani (The Islanders)'' (2022). For ''Ex-Voto'' she won the Photographer of the Year award at the 2018 Sony World Photography Awards. John Moore (photographer)
John Moore (born 1967) is an American photographer. He works for Getty images among others. His work has received several awards, including a Pulitzer Prize in 2005. His photograph of a two-year-old girl, crying as US Border Patrol officers begin to search her mother prior to taking both of them into custody for illegally crossing the US-Mexican border was named World Press Photo 2018. Life John Moore studied at the University of Texas at Austin the study program Radio Television Film. Moore worked as a photographer in 65 countries, first in Nicaragua, then in India, South Africa, Mexico, Egypt and Pakistan. Sara Naomi Lewkowicz
Sara Naomi Lewkowicz is an 42 year old American photographer best known for her 2013 ''Time'' magazine article "Photographer as Witness: A Portrait of Domestic Violence". Her work with the article and Lewkowicz's overall work covering domestic violence won her the Ville de Perpignan Rémi Ochlik Award in 2013. Education Lewkowicz attended Ohio University, where she completed a master's degree in Visual Communication. David Zimmerman (photographer)
David J. Zimmerman (born 1955) is an American photographer who works on long-term projects of social documentary and landscape photography. His works include landscape photographs in deserts of the American southwest, still life studies in communities of marginalized inhabitants in New Mexico, and portraits of Tibetan refugees living in India. Zimmerman's monograph, ''One Voice: Portraits from the Tibetan Diaspora'' was published in 2017. Zimmerman has won the L'Iris d'Or, 'Photographer of the Year' at the Sony World Photography Awards. Vanessa Winship
Vanessa Winship HonFRPS (born 1960) is a British photographer who works on long term projects of portrait, landscape, reportage and documentary photography. These personal projects have predominantly been in Eastern Europe but also the USA. Winship's books include ''Schwarzes Meer'' (2007), ''Sweet Nothings'' (2008) and ''She Dances on Jackson'' (2013). Edward Burtynsky
Edward Burtynsky (born February 22, 1955) is a Canadian photographer and artist known for his large format photographs of industrial landscapes. His works depict locations from around the world that represent the increasing development of industrialization and its impacts on nature and the human existence. It is most often connected to the philosophical concept of the sublime, a trait established by the grand scale of the work he creates, though they are equally disturbing in the way they reveal the context of rapid industrialization. Graciela Iturbide
Graciela Iturbide (born May 16, 1942) is a Mexican photographer. Her work has been exhibited internationally, and is included in many major museum collections such as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and The J. Paul Getty Museum. Biography Iturbide was born in Mexico City, Mexico in 1942, to traditional Catholic parents. The eldest of thirteen children, she attended Catholic school and was exposed to photography early on in life. Her father took pictures of her and her siblings, and she got her first camera when she was 11 years old. When she was a child, her father put all the photographs in a box; Iturbide later said: "it was a great treat to go to the box and look at these photos, these memories." Nadav Kander
Nadav Kander HonFRPS (born 1 December 1961) is a London-based photographer, artist and director, known for his portraiture and landscapes. Kander has produced a number of books and had his work exhibited widely. He received an Honorary Fellowship from the Royal Photographic Society in 2015, and won the Prix Pictet award. Life and work Kander was born in Tel Aviv, Israel. His father flew Boeing 707s for El-Al but lost his eye and was unable to continue flying.
