The OCC is operated jointly by the British Phonographic Industry and the Entertainment Retailers Association (ERA) (formerly the British Association of Record Dealers (BARD)) and is incorporated as a private company limited by shares jointly owned by BPI and ERA. Into The Great Wide Open
''Into the Great Wide Open'' is the eighth studio album by American rock band Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, released in July 1991. The album was the band's last with MCA Records. The album was the second Petty produced with Jeff Lynne after the success of ''Full Moon Fever''. The first single, " Learning to Fly", became the band's joint longest-running No. 1 single (along with " The Waiting" from 1981's ''Hard Promises'') on '' Billboard''s Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, spending six weeks at the top spot. The second single, "Out in the Cold", also made No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock chart, albeit for two weeks. The music video for the title song stars Johnny Depp as "Eddie", who moves to Los Angeles as a teenager to seek rock stardom, along with Gabrielle Anwar, Faye Dunaway, Matt LeBlanc, Terence Trent D'Arby, and Chynna Phillips. Critical reception ''Into the Great Wide Open'' was warmly received by critics. Dave DiMartino, reviewing the album for ''Entertainment Weekly' ...

Let Me Up (I've Had Enough)
''Let Me Up (I've Had Enough)'' (styled on the cover with quotation marks) is the seventh studio album by the American band Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, released on 27 April 1987. It features the most songwriting collaborations between Petty and lead guitarist Mike Campbell of any Petty album. It is also the first album not to feature then-former bassist Ron Blair on any tracks. The Heartbreakers' approach when starting to work on the album in 1986 was to make it sound like a live recording. This technique contrasted with the heavy studio production on the band's previous album, ''Southern Accents'' and was influenced by touring as Bob Dylan's backing band. ''Let Me Up (I've Had Enough)'' is also notable for being the only previous studio album not represented on Petty's 1993 ''Greatest Hits'' album, even though the single "Jammin' Me" (co-written with fellow Traveling Wilbury Bob Dylan) was No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks for four weeks and No. 18 on the Hot 100. "Jammi ...

MCA Records
MCA Records was an American record label owned by MCA Inc., which later became part of Universal Music Group. Pre-history MCA Inc., a powerful talent agency and a television production company, entered the recorded music business in 1962 with the purchase of the New York-based US Decca Records (established in 1934), including Coral Records and Brunswick Records. MCA was forced to exit the talent agency business in order to complete the merger. As American Decca owned Universal Pictures, MCA assumed full ownership of Universal and made it into a top film studio, producing several hits. In 1966, MCA formed Uni Records and in 1967, purchased Kapp Records which was placed under Uni Records management. History The early years In 1937, the owner of Decca, E. R. Lewis, chose to split off the UK Decca company from the US company (keeping his US Decca holdings), fearing the financial damage that would arise for UK Companies if the emerging hostilities of Nazi Germany should lead t ...

Southern Accents
''Southern Accents'' is the sixth studio album by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, released on March 26, 1985, through MCA Records. The album's lead single, "Don't Come Around Here No More", co-written by Dave Stewart of Eurythmics, peaked at number 13 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. The song "Southern Accents" was later covered by Johnny Cash for his '' Unchained'' album in 1996. Background Originally conceived as a concept album, the theme of ''Southern Accents'' became somewhat murky with the inclusion of three songs co-written by Stewart, and several others originally planned for the album left off. Songs cut from the track list include "Trailer", "Crackin' Up" (a Nick Lowe cover), "Big Boss Man" (a Jimmy Reed cover), "The Image of Me" (a Conway Twitty cover), "Walkin' from the Fire", and "The Apartment Song". The first two were released as B-sides, while the two remaining covers (and a demo version of "The Apartment Song") were later released on the '' Playback'' box set. A ...

Long After Dark
''Long After Dark'' is the fifth studio album by American rock band Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, released November 2, 1982 on Backstreet Records. Notable for the MTV hit "You Got Lucky", the album was also the band's first to feature Howie Epstein on bass and harmony vocals. Epstein's vocals are prevalent throughout the album and from that point on, became an integral part of the Heartbreakers' sound. Two other singles from the album were released, " Change of Heart" and "Straight into Darkness". The first of these joined "You Got Lucky" in the ''Billboard'' top 40. In July 2018, "Keep a Little Soul", an outtake from ''Long After Dark'', was released as the first single to promote Petty's box set ''An American Treasure''. "Keeping Me Alive", another outtake from the sessions for the album, was a Petty favorite, and was eventually released on his and the Heartbreakers' 1995 box set '' Playback'', as well as on ''An American Treasure''. Hard Promises
''Hard Promises'' is the fourth studio album by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers released on May 5, 1981 on Backstreet Records. History Its original working title was ''Benmont's Revenge'', referring to the band's keyboard player, Benmont Tench. The album features guest vocals from Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac on the duet "Insider". The Heartbreakers also recorded the hit "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" for Nicks' album '' Bella Donna'' around the time ''Hard Promises'' was recorded. This was the second Tom Petty album on the Backstreet Records label. The album's release was delayed while Petty and his distributor MCA Records argued about the list price. The album was slated to be the next MCA release with the new list price of $9.98, following Steely Dan's ''Gaucho'' and the Olivia Newton-John/Electric Light Orchestra '' Xanadu'' soundtrack. This so-called "superstar pricing" was $1.00 more than the usual list price of $8.98. Petty voiced his objections to the price hike in t ...

The first major signing to the label was Tom Petty, ending a legal battle between Petty and MCA over his recording contract which was acquired when MCA purchased ABC Records. The label's roster of artists also included J.J. Cale, Keith Sykes, Nils Lofgren, Men Without Hats, and Walter Egan. The label's last release was in 1983, after which it was absorbed into MCA Records. ''Damn the Torpedoes'' is the third studio album by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, released on October 19, 1979. This was the first of three Petty albums originally released by the Backstreet Records label, distributed by MCA Records. It built on the commercial success and critical acclaim of his two previous albums and reached #2 on the ''Billboard'' album chart. The album went on to become certified Triple Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). In 2003, the album was ranked number 313 on ''Rolling Stone'' magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time, and 231 in a 2020 revised list. Background and recording Petty's recording contract was assigned to MCA when his distributor ABC Records was sold to MCA in 1979.
