''Songs for the Daily Planet'' is the 1994 debut album of American alternative country artist Todd Snider. It was released in 1994 via MCA Records. Content The album contains 12 songs, all written or co-written by Snider. "Talkin' Seattle Grunge Rock Blues", a hidden track on the album, was a minor radio hit. Mark Chesnutt covered "Trouble" on his 1995 album '' Wings'', and Gary Allan covered "Alright Guy" on his 2001 album ''Alright Guy'', both of which were also produced by Tony Brown. Critical reception Jack Leaver of Allmusic wrote that it was "A rootsy record that combines country and folk elements with a genuine rock & roll sensibility", rating the album 4.5 out of 5 stars. Dan Kening of the ''Chicago Tribune'' rated it 3.5 out of 4 stars, comparing Snider's sound to Billy Joe Shaver and Steve Earle while noting "deft lyrical insights" on songs such as "This Land Is Our Land" and "You Think You Know Somebody". Todd Snider
Todd Daniel Snider (born October 11, 1966) is an American singer-songwriter whose music incorporates elements of folk, rock, blues, alt country, and funk. Early career Todd Snider was born in Portland, Oregon, but was raised in nearby Beaverton, where he lived until he graduated from Beaverton High School in 1985. After high school, he moved to Santa Rosa, California, to attend Santa Rosa Junior College. He only lasted one semester, but while there, he learned to play the harmonica. With help from his brother Mike who bought him a plane ticket, Snider relocated to San Marcos, Texas, after leaving SRJC in late fall of 1985. Not long after he arrived in San Marcos, Snider saw Jerry Jeff Walker perform solo at Gruene Hall, a legendary dance hall in New Braunfels, Texas. Stephen Fain Earle (; born January 17, 1955) is an American singer-songwriter, record producer, author, and actor. Earle began his career as a songwriter in Nashville and released his first EP in 1982. Harry Stinson (musician)
Harry Stinson is an American multi-instrumentalist, noted as a session drummer and vocalist in the Nashville music community. He is also a songwriter and producer. Biography Stinson grew up in Nashville, where he grew to love country music. He was in a high school band with Morris West, son of country star Dottie West. In 1970, Stinson first worked professionally in Dottie West's band the Heartaches, touring with Red Sovine and Don Gibson, and appearing on the Grand Ole Opry. In 1974, Stinson substituted for Willie Leacox for the band America's tour. Silver Then Stinson moved to California, where he joined the band Silver with John Batdorf, Tom Leadon, Brent Mydland, and Greg Collier. Silver had one top 20 hit in 1976 with "Wham Bam." John Edwin "Eddy" Shaver (June 20, 1962 - December 31, 2000) was an American country-rock guitar virtuoso, arranger, and songwriter. Biography The son of country artist Billy Joe Shaver, Eddy learned to play guitar at an early age, tutored by Allman Brothers Band guitarist, Dickey Betts, who gave Eddy his first guitar. As a young man, he accompanied his father as well as country music greats Willie Nelson, Guy Clark, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, and Dwight Yoakam. Later, Shaver performed with his father in the duo Shaver. Together, they recorded several critically acclaimed albums. Terry McMillan (musician)
Terry Lee McMillan (October 12, 1953 – February 2, 2007) was an American country musician who played harmonica and percussion. In 1973, he became a member of Eddy Raven's band in Nashville, and worked with Raven until 1974. McMillan then started working with Chet Atkins, playing harmonica with his touring show. Later, he toured with Jerry Reed and Jeannie C. Riley before becoming a very in-demand session musician.
