''Songs for a Healthier America'' is a 19-track compilation album by various artists, released in 2013 as a collaborative project by the Partnership for a Healthier America, whose honorary chair is First Lady Michelle Obama, and Hip Hop Public Health. The album encourages children to exercise and make healthy food choices. Guest vocalists include Ashanti, Doug E. E Street Band
The E Street Band is an American rock band, and has been musician Bruce Springsteen's primary backing band since 1972. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014. For the bulk of Springsteen's recording and performing career, the band consisted of: guitarists Steven Van Zandt, Nils Lofgren, and Patti Scialfa, keyboardists Danny Federici and Roy Bittan, bassist Garry Tallent, drummer Max Weinberg, and saxophonist Clarence Clemons. Jabari Miles Evans, better known by his stage name Naledge, is an American rapper and one half of the hip-hop group Kidz in the Hall. He is also an assistant professor of Race and Media at the University of South Carolina in School of Journalism and Mass Communication. Darryl Matthews McDaniels (born May 31, 1964), better known by his stage name DMC, is an American rapper. He is a founding member of the hip hop group Run-DMC, and is considered one of the pioneers of hip hop culture. Early life McDaniels grew up in Hollis, Queens. Olajide Williams (born 1969) is an American neurologist and the founder of Hip-Hop Public Health. He is Chief of Staff and Professor of Neurology at Columbia University. Early life and education Williams was born prematurely into the front seat of his mother's Volkswagen beetle, and spent most of the first year of his life in hospital. As a teenager, Williams attended Haileybury College in the United Kingdom. Williams trained in medicine in the University of Lagos. It was in Lagos that he first became interested in public health, recognising how many people were dying from preventable diseases.
