''Songs'' is the fourth album by the American psychedelic soul group Rotary Connection issued in May 1969 on Cadet Records. Covers Rotary Connection covered artists such as Cream, The Band, Otis Redding, Muddy Waters, The Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix on the album. The album is also noted for including a song written for the band by Stevie Wonder, titled "This Town." The song was the very first one written by the then-18-year-old Wonder for a non-Motown artist, and would be performed by him in live concerts. ''Dinner Music'' is a 1970 studio album by American psychedelic soul group Rotary Connection, released by Cadet Records. Reception Editors at AllMusic rated this album 2.5 out of 5 stars, with critic Andy Kellman writing that "the only accurate prediction one could have made before going into a Rotary Connection record was that it would be unpredictable" and continued that this is "the least-uniform Rotary Connection record", which "comes off like a series of tangents with little in the way of cohesion". Kellman also reviewed a single-CD compilation of ''Aladdin'' and ''Dinner Music'', also rating it three stars, noting that this is the only way to get this music on CD, but critiquing that these are the band's two weakest albums. In a review for retailers, ''Billboard'' recommended this album for having "topnotch performances" and specifically praised Minnie Riperton's vocals. Respect (song)
"Respect" is a song written and originally recorded by American soul singer Otis Redding. It was released in 1965 as a single from his third album ''Otis Blue/Otis Redding Sings Soul'' and became a crossover hit for Redding. In 1967, fellow soul singer Aretha Franklin covered and rearranged "Respect", resulting in a bigger hit and her signature song. The music in the two versions is significantly different, while a few changes in the lyrics resulted in different narratives around the theme of human dignity that have been interpreted as commentaries on traditional gender roles. Franklin's interpretation became a feminist anthem for the second-wave feminism movement in the 1970s. "Salt of the Earth" is the final song from English rock band the Rolling Stones album '' Beggars Banquet'' (1968). Written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, the song includes an opening lead vocal by Richards. It is the second official track by the group to feature him on lead vocal (the first being " Something Happened to Me Yesterday" from ''Between the Buttons''). We're Going Wrong
"We're Going Wrong" is a song by British supergroup Cream from the album ''Disraeli Gears''. The song was written by bassist Jack Bruce and was the only song on ''Gears'' that Jack wrote without lyricist Pete Brown. Song structure With the song's lyrics being only two stanzas long, Jack Bruce's vocals are stretched out throughout the length of the song and are backed by Eric Clapton's psychedelic-style guitar work and Ginger Baker's drum beat which, at least when played live, uses Timpani drum mallets instead of regular drumsticks. The 6/8 time signature also gives the song a distinct and irregular sound. Bruce's vocals are falsetto and crooning-like and are accompanied with a slow bass line and a bluesy/psychedelic guitar melody; however Baker’s drumming is often frenetic and fast paced, making it completely at odds with the rest of the instruments. Martin Sharp
Martin Ritchie Sharp (21 January 1942 – 1 December 2013) was an Australian artist, cartoonist, songwriter and film-maker. Career Sharp was born in Bellevue Hill, New South Wales in 1942, and educated at Cranbrook private school, where one of his teachers was the artist Justin O'Brien. In 1960, Sharp enrolled at the National Art School at East Sydney. He was one of the editors of '' Oz'', an Australia/UK alternative/ underground satire magazine published from 1963 to 1973 and associated with the international counterculture of that era. Sharp was called Australia's foremost pop artist. "Tales of Brave Ulysses" is a song recorded in 1967 by British group Cream. It was released as the B-side to the "Strange Brew" single in June 1967. In November, the song was included on Cream's second album, ''Disraeli Gears''. The song features one of the earliest uses of a wah-wah pedal, which guitarist Eric Clapton plays throughout the song. "Got My Mojo Working" is a blues song written by Preston "Red" Foster and first recorded by R&B singer Ann Cole in 1956. Foster's lyrics describe several amulets or talismans, called ''mojo'', which are associated with hoodoo, an early African-American folk-magic belief system. In 1957, Muddy Waters adapted the song with some different lyrics and a new musical arrangement. Eric Patrick Clapton (born 1945) is an English rock and blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He is often regarded as one of the most successful and influential guitarists in rock music. Jack Bruce
John Symon Asher Bruce (14 May 1943 – 25 October 2014) was a Scottish bassist, singer-songwriter, musician and composer. He gained popularity as the primary lead vocalist and bassist of British rock band Cream. After the group disbanded in 1968, he pursued a solo career and also played with several bands. In the early 1960s Bruce joined the Graham Bond Organisation (GBO), where he met his future bandmate Ginger Baker.
