Song Hanliang
Song Hanliang (; December 1934 – October 3, 2000) was a Chinese politician, notable for being the Party Secretary of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region during the economic reform era. Born in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Zhejiang ( or , ; , also romanized as Chekiang) is an eastern, coastal province of the People's Republic of China. Its capital and largest city is Hangzhou, and other notable cities include Ningbo and Wenzhou. Zhejiang is bordered by Jiang ... province, Song worked for the Xinjiang Zhongsu Petroleum Company, then became a research director at the Xinjiang Petroleum Administrative Bureau. He became a deputy head of the Bureau in 1980. In 1983, he became the Vice Chairman of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. In October 1985, Song was promoted to Party Secretary, the top office in the region; he served in the office until December 1994. Xinjiang, SASM/GNC: ''Xinjang''; zh, c=, p=Xīnjiāng; formerly romanized as Sinkiang (, ), officially the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR), is an autonomous region of the People's Republic of China (PRC), located in the northwest of the country at the crossroads of Central Asia and East Asia. Being the largest province-level division of China by area and the 8th-largest country subdivision in the world, Xinjiang spans over and has about 25 million inhabitants. Xinjiang borders the countries of Mongolia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.
